What IT Cert Makes you Jealous?

So:

Few years ago, was serving as a head honcho in an IT related position, and I got a phone call: "We need one of your guys to attend a month long training course, and then take the test to become CCNP certified". This was during a time that we were all suffering and taking college courses to get ahead, etc. But me being the management of the crew couldn't recommend myself (trust me I tried).

So that being said, I have always been a bit jealous of people with CCNA'S and CCNP's, mainly because my job not only gives you a month of training before the actual test but they pay for the test as well. I have only been as lucky as to get my SEC+ paid for. Which I am kind of proud of. Because I am pretty retarded when it comes to IT shit.

So....ATOT'ers...

When you are E'Peening against another IT professional and you hear what certs they have....what is it that makes you go:

"Godamnyou, HACK!"

Just curious.....

P.S. Screw you CCNP certified bastards.

I don't want to sound like some kind of elitist, but there is no way someone is going to go to a class for a month and pass all 3 tests of the CCNP, without several years of experience first. I would almost say that trying to knock out 1 test a month would be pushing it.

To answer your question CCIE lab, or CISSP.

Several years of military IT work and then an opportunity to go to a main operations base to train and be taught/tested on a subject by Cisco contractors while deployed to the middle east?

Also this is a huge part of the warrant officer corps as well, just saying.

None, I don't put any value on that stuff or value those employees any higher than the rest.

I would have said CISSP until recently now I'd say CCIE, but I have no intention of getting that I don't even have a CCNA and no network related job duties. I just know a few folks who have them and you can tell they know their stuff.

As a person who's made a great IT career while never getting a single cert, I'd say none. Getting them shows initiative and I don't see them as a bad thing, but some of the more prestigious ones really are over rated and doesn't mean you can actually apply it to the real world.

You can learn anything w/o them and probably remember more in the long run.

And the truth is that most companies don't care. The certs are really only important if you're a consultant or working for a provider, but that's about it.

I have CISSP and had CCNA but I got into management and my network device management skills went to shit and I let my CCNA lapse.

I might study up again and take the CCNA exam again and re-cert.

I am also Brocade certified.

One good thing about having them is they do reduce the contract costs with Cisco if you have X number of CCNP's and CCIE's. But like ImpulsE69 said, you could become much better at work by learning the network instead of memorizing alot of useless stuff in the Cisco books. I probably see about 30% of the stuff that was covered on various tests.

I mostly pursue certs in my downtime at work, and the company I work for does an excellent job of laying people off every now and then. Basically I don't have to be the smartest person in the building, but being way above the dumbest helps.
