What keeps you gaming on the PC?

Is it the keyboard and mouse? Or something else? For me it's "just because". I multitask while playing games. I like the adhoc community better than the canned environments of XBL, etc. And yeah, I like the complexity of my keyboard and mouse.

The fact that good games are released on the PC is what keeps me playing games on the PC. It has nothing to do with multitasking, the keyboard and mouse or the fact that I can set my desktop background.

A single platform for everything - email, web browsing, games, youtube, steam friends list, steam store,,,,,,,,.

The only other console I own is the wii, and my son has a game cube. I see no reason to buy an xbox or playstation when I have the PC and Steam.

Keyboard and mouse, better graphics, more in-game control, single platform. Almost all big games are multiplatform nowadays aside from a dwindling number of console exclusive titles and I'd much rather just have them all in steam than disc cases on my shelf.

Edit: Also Steam

The fact that i spent $700 on this thing?

But yea, mostly graphics. KB+ Mouse, i don't mind, I hook up my Ps3 controller all the time using motionjoy to play some games.

Part of it for me is the comfort level, it's the platform I've used continuously the longest. I've tried shooters on the 360 and have a hard time w/ the controls but feel much more at ease w/ keyboard and mouse. That said, I have no problems using the 360 for other things that I feel are more comfortable and get the better releases (sports).

Variety and potentially the complexity of games (especially those that include editors), modding communities, occasional unofficial community support/fixes after a developer pulls the plug on a game, hardware superiority (potentially) over consoles, allowing (potentially) better, bigger game worlds, more diverse games, better engines, generally good prices (with the advent of the digital distribution/availability since the past few years, it's now very easy to just wait two or three months until a game's initial price is cut sometimes by as much as half).

What else, oh yes, the controls, a bigger on-line games library, capacity of (occasionally) changing various in-game/in-files settings and variables to accommodate the system's capacities, ability to listen to your own music from background software while playing, save anywhere anytime (in most games, mostly excluding recent console ports, and this is about PC-specific gaming after all)... I could go on and on, I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but there's basically a crap load of reasons why I like gaming on PC and why I keep doing it and stay away from console gaming.

Ah just everything really, its an all in one, plus the community is great, here, other forums, other webites, with xbox live its just you, a mic, and the other douchebags.

Plus its best for FPS, RTS and all it needs for the good consolized games is a gamepad.

ability to multi task (emails, IM, web browse, etc)

keyboard and mouse

like you said .. not a canned experience, you have steam, ingame chat (voice and KB), xfire, ventrilo, teamspeak, etc

performance, IMO, is much better on PC's as well

Apart from the things that have been mentioned already. What keeps me gaming on the PC is that I can still play the games I bought 10 years ago, when I started building my library, in my (relatively) modern PC.

I don't like to share - PC gaming allows me full control over when and what *I* get to do.

A single platform with Keyboard + Mouse, Gamepad, Joystick & Wheel support. The Ability to tweak settings, modding is easy. Ability to play any of hundreds of games without so much as opening a case & putting a DVD in.

PC's also have a far better "community" experience.

Graphics, Keyboard & Mouse, don't have to wait 30 minutes to play something

I use my ps3 so infrequently that EVERY TIME I want to play something, it requires a system update. Then by the time that's done I'm probably no longer interested in playing.

Like someone said above, its about control. That control does come with a learning curve, but once your in the know its very difficult to resist. It is true that PC gaming has a higher buyin cost than consoles, however your getting a platform that can do much more. Being a PC gamer is more than just playing games.

Graphics, mods, kb + mouse. It's also easier for me to read screens with lots of small font text on my PC monitor than on my HDTV.

I'll still play a console exclusive if it's fun though, on either the 360 or PS3. Good games are good games.

This right here baffles me...makes you wonder how those companies survived all those years w/o internet access to their consoles and constant updating Yes, I mean it really isn't needed.

As for me...I really don't hate on any of it. Some games are just better suited to PC and modifying/map making etc is a great addition to any game. My biggest gripe with consoles is fighting the wife for TV time.

My PC is my All in One Tool. News, non-Gaming Entertainment(still watch some TV, but not much anymore), Discussion, Information, and Gaming. It is simply indispensable.

Being able to easily Mod my games or apply awesome fan-made ones without any hassle

Keyboard/Mouse/Joystick are more intuitive to me than squares and triangles and 10 different thumb sticks

Fully customizable hardware platform.

I tend to play very in depth strategy games like titles from Paradox Interactive whose interfaces just cant fit in the limitations of consoles

Being able to alt + tab to check email is wonderful, or to quickly google a solution to a problem I am facing in-game.

I would agree with most of the reasons above. PC Gaming is clearly the best, no offence to consoles but PC just offers me so much more.
