As of last week with TDU2: Nothing. Not a god damn thing any more. I know for a fact Deus Ex 3 will suck balls.
And even though Part 2 of Star Craft 2 will probably be OK, I dont give a shit about it.
And there is nothing else. No good D&D games to look forward to. No Star Wars games. Nothing. I am done upgrading for gaming. In fact I suspect since I dont need to game, I dont actually NEED Windows, which means Linux from now on. Which means I will be able to go a long fucking time without upgrading.

Right now, its backwards compatibility. I can install games from the 90s and play them still. Its kinda funny, as on consoles, I personally find backwards compatibility pointless, and a completely overblown subject issue when a new one doesn't provide it.

Also multitasking. I can play a game while watching Netflix or movies/TV shows, have Facebook/Skype open so friends/family can contact me, and if I need to check something I can load a browser up right away.

Another big plus is variability in control. I personally hate the keyboard as a game controller. It is great for some games, but I don't typically play any of them (and most games would be fine with 10-20 hotkeys so a smaller more ergonomic peripheral would be better. And some games are just good with a controller.

I think you should just end it all now. :awe:

A single platform for everything - email, web browsing, games, youtube, steam friends list, steam store,,,,,,,,.

The only other console I own is the wii, and my son has a game cube. I see no reason to buy an xbox or playstation when I have the PC and Steam.

Pretty much this is my reason. I have a PC anyway, and just by adding a 100.00 graphics card, I can play pretty much any game I am interested in at moderate settings and resolutions. Plus the KB/mouse control scheme is much easier for me to use than a gamepad.

Also the fact that many games are available on steam at a good price during the sales makes the PC platform very attractive.

ARMA 2, and that BF3 trailer that came out today. The graphics look better than the leaked Crysis 2 screenies.

The games coming out are mostly unacceptable, so I no longer upgrade, or even follow whats going on in the hardware world. The PC platform was fun while it lasted at least, but I suppose the upside of it is it's allowing me loads of time to go back and play all of the old games I missed. When I run out of those though... guess I'll have to revert to one of my other hobbies.

For some reason most people seem to think that games from 10 or 20 years ago are not worth playing any more and don't care that their new console can't run them. People don't generally think this about movies, TV, music, books, or any other entertainent medium, so I don't understand it. The original Mario Kart on SNES is still the best one - it didn't stop being fun just because the graphics are dated. Thankfully most of these things are now playable on PC =)

I had a launch-day PS3, which I eventually sold a year later because there had still been no games released that interested me. I eventually came to regret that decision though because I no longer had the magical HDMI upscaling PS2 capability, and I can't even buy one any more.

Games are more reliant on technology than those other entertainment mediums. But look at how quickly silent films and black and white films died out when better alternatives were available.

New games are released all the time so for most people there is no need to go back and play the old ones.

Yeah, I said I don't follow the hardware, as there's not enough new games out there to warrant anything new. I still see what games are coming out, because there are occasionally PC exclusives, or ports by developers that still take a bit of time with them.

Anyway, why do you feel the need to reply to my post by trolling?

For me it's probably the convenience of steam. I actually own all the consoles as well but if a game is available on steam I would buy that one instead of the console version.

I only use my consoles for the exclusives like gran turismo, halo, mario galaxy etc.

Several things:
FPSs with a gamepad sucks;
better graphics
more customizability
The Fact that PS3 doesn't have a scalar
The fact that the X360 dies too damn easily.
emulators

The only real disadvantages of the PC is that consoles hold it back and no lossless audio since CD-DA died out.

Because it's cool and at the same time, for some, upgrading a PC is a passion or a hobby so it's a cool platform with which you can do everything, what's not to like?

For me its the fact I can take games I've had for 10+ years, re-install them and still play on the same machine (same machine being a PC regardless if I've upgraded). Then the games I do play I can play with the same, reliable circle of friends. I own a PS3 and Wii, but I own a total of 3 PS3 games and the Wii is more for the wife.

trying to explain overclocking and general tweaking for gaming as a hobby is such a hard thing to explain to console gamers. they usually just say... "why?? don't you like to just sit down and play and not have to worry about any of that??"

for me at least... it goes back to the days of being from a SUPER poor background yet having a 386 way back in the day. we didn't have money to have someone fix our issues or money for upgrades. so i had to learn how to squeeze every bit of performance out of what i had. the joy i get from getting squeezing extra performance out of hardware is almost second to none.

my crowning achievement in computing is still to this day getting ICQ to run on my 386.

Using a PC to game is more convenient than using a game console. I have everything on me, I can switch from work to play easily, and I don't have to pay money just to use gaming services.

Keyboard and mouse only. Especially since I got the leather couch.

I feel like a retarded kid using a console controller. RETAHDED. Like writing with your left hand.
