I know lots of people get depressed at times, I know there are people who are extremely depressed all the time, I don't understand it. I like life, sure there are bad days, but a bad day is better than no day at all.

Ritalin and Adderall aren't really "depression" meds. Yes they are to treat a psychological disorder (ADHD), but that's different from depression. Also, I will agree that generally, meds do tend to get overprescribed, however, that doesn't mean that it is NOT the solution for anyone in specific. Also, many "depression" meds are not controlled substances, so the risks for dependency are low.
I would suggest to anybody who is feeling depressed a lot of the time to seek professional help. If a doc wants to prescribe meds, and you aren't comfortable with the idea, then there's no harm in seeking a second opinion.
