What kind of a raise is everyone expecting?

Last year was pretty good for us so I got 12.5% in February. Frankly, I think I got a bigger raise than most the people in my group because they already make much more than I do. Of course they've all been here much longer than me and have more applicable degrees. I'm not complaining. From what I've heard, once I get promoted (titular promotion only really) the raises will probably be smaller provided I'm making close to what I should be for the position. I'm hoping for around 5% from here on out.

Percentages are nice and all, but they really don't tell the whole story. Some people make more to begin with, or get bonuses. I've had jobs where I got 20 and 25% raises, but I was making sh1t to begin with so they weren't very impressive. As long as I've got a job and my salary keeps going up, I'm happy. I'm underworked anyway...

My company is big on pay for performance. You know, "meets expectations" is supposed to be paid at the midpoint of your salary range. "Exceeds" is supposed to be paid at the top of the salary range.

That's the theory anyway. The fine print is that their goal is not to automatically pay you what they say you are worth, but to "move you towards" the part of the salary range that matches your performance.

Last year I did the calculations based on my 4% increase. Turns out it would take roughly 7 years worth of raises before I am actually making what my performance assesments say I'm worth.

And yes, I think this is the time of year when many people are getting raises. At least those who work for companies that have yearly performance assesments and compensation evaluation.

I will be satisfied if I get at least 5%. Anything less and I'm going to be very irritated that they even have the nerve to claim they "pay for performance".

It would take a 20% raise to get to where I should be.

The company I work for had one of its best years ever, not to mention they had alot of things they cut back. I almost sh*t my pants when I got a whoppin 1.5 % raise. IT was company wide, except for the suits of course. So many people are pissed. Not even close to a f*cking cost of living increase! Guess that means I'll have to loot some hardware for compensation!!

Starting today, I make 288.9% MORE than I did before. For the mathmatically impared, I'm earning nearly 4 times as much. Got my Ph.D. and now I get a real engineer's salary instead of a student's salary. I'm doing the exact same work for the exact same people.

I can't wait for my first real paycheck on May 31.

Nice. When I started working here, it was on contract through a temp agency and I was still a CS student a few months away from graduating. It was almost 2.5 times what I had ever earned before (always had roughly min wage jobs). Now I can't believe how excited I was at the time to be making a whole whopping $16/hr.
