I will be buying the new Intel NUC (NUC7i7BNH) once it's available to purchase later this month. The specs for it on the Intel website (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-kit-nuc7i7bnh.html) says it uses a "1x Thunderbolt 3 port (40 Gbps, with USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps and DisplayPort* 1.2) via USB-C" and I'm going to be connecting this Intel NUC to a 32" HP Omen monitor seen here (http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/omen-by-hp-32-32-inch-display).
If I'm understanding this correctly, I'm going to need a cable that will have a USB-C connector on one end (to plug into the Intel NUC) and a full size DisplayPort connector (to plug into the HP Omen monitor) on the other end. Is this correct?
If that is correct, the cables look to be expensive (https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-DisplayPort-1-8m-Chromebook-Thunderbolt/dp/B01EXKDRAC/). A simple search on Amazon shows most cables sell for around $30. I've read DisplayPort is the best connector to use to hookup a bigger higher resolution monitor like the Omen linked above to a computer but should I just use a HDMI cable instead? The Intel NUC and the HP Omen monitor both have HDMI ports of course and I have a spare HDMI cable. Will refresh rates/picture quality take a hit if I use HDMI vs using DisplayPort? Thanks for any input guys.
