What kind of mouse grip do I use?

Looking for a new mouse, I was presented with recommendations based on what type of grip I use. My grip didn't fit any description, so I thought I'd check here.

My thumb is on the bottom edge of the mouse just off to the left a little bit. My ring finger is on the upper right edge of the mouse. I sort of pinch it between those two fingers and hold it slanted about 20° to the right.

I pivot my hand on my wrist to move the cursor up and down. I extend and retract the fingers pinching the mouse to move left and right...lifting it up frequently.

It's a super fast, efficient, and relaxed method and I don't know how long I've been doing this, but probably from the very beginning. Is there a term for something like this? I've been using a Logitech G3 for long time, but it died and I haven't found anything else as comfortable.

I never heard of a standard term for mouse grip. Your best bet is to try a few and see what's comfortable.

Sounds like a fingertip grip. You probably have the movement speed turned way up, too.

I use this Logitech one, I think it's a claw grip. Incredibly comfortable. Apple's Magic Mouse is the worst mouse I've used with absolutely no rest for your palm.

You are using an unusual fingertip grip. Try the logitech G100S, which is very similar in shape to the G3. There also may still be G3 available on EBay. A lot of pros who use a grip similar to yours opt for the Zowie Mico / Logitech Mini Optical mice which are also nice compact mice (many RTS pros use these, mainly the Mico because the LMO is older and has only 400 DPI).

I would ignore the other mice suggested by the other posters above, I'm not sure they know what a G3 looks/feels like but their mouse suggestions are not that.

Ya, I'd seen the G100S, but it lacks the side button of the G3. Even though my grip makes it awkward to hit side buttons, the G3 just has one large button and it's further back than most mice, so I was always able to hit it.

I hadn't considered a micro mouse, but that is actually a great suggestion for grips like mine. I could get more travel with the mouse so I'd rarely have to lift and shift.

Definitely sounds like an odd type of fingertip grip. Smaller mice are going to suit you and due to the angle you will want one with the sensor in the centre or its going to move very weirdly. You might find something like the Steelseries kana or Kinzu. Both are much smaller than what you are used to, but your a fingertip holder so those big mice are really the wrong style for you and you may have ended up with the strange diagonal hold because of that.

I like the look of the Sensei, but, ya, the Kana is smaller, so that may fit me better. Thanks.

The diagonal grip is so a part of the grip, I'm pretty sure. My mouse and pad are our almost under my monitor as well. I basically lay my arm on the table till just below my elbow and let it stay relaxed. All movements are done with a flick or contraction of my thumb or ring finger or a slight twist of the wrist. So the mouse has to be diagonal so that when I push with my thumb the mouse moves straight forward and when I extend my ring finger and thumb, the mouse moves straight left away from my palm.

It's super relaxed. I've never have any issues with any of my joints no matter how much I play. I assumed it was common enough to have a name.

I did bump into a guy who uses the exact same motions but holds the mouse at the other diagonal angle so his horizontal is my vertical, etc.
