What kind of music is EMO

I hear people talking about this music a good bit, but don't really know what kind of music it is. What kind is it...what kinds of music are like it? What are some examples of groups that play emo. Sorry for being so out-of-the-mainstream

Emo isnt mainstream... but some bands are starting to make their way there... you may have heard of Jimmy Eat World, whom are emo.
Lets see... examples: Get Up Kids, the Anniversary, Weakerthans...

I dont really feel like writing out what Emo is... so just go here for long explanation or here for a shorter explanation.

weezer is kinda emo... but not really, and they sure didnt start it.

Emo is normally punk rock with sob story.

Actually.....no.
Emo CAN be Punk, but for the most part, Emo is just plain old indie rock with heavy helpings of emotion.

Nice deep stuff that, in my opinion, blows everything else today outta the water.

Examples:
The aforementioned Jimmy Eat World (though they will insist that they arent emo, they are)
Jets To Brazil (formerly the punk band Jawbreaker)
Juliana Theory
The Ataris (your punk/emo)
NFG like you mentioned.
Get Up Kids
Saves The Day (more emo now than they used to be)
Dashboard Confessional
Further Seems Forever
Hey Mercedes
Braid (who are now Hey Mercedes)

And I dont consider Weezer emo at all. They are Indie Rock bordering on Mainstream, really. Still one of the most amazing bands on earth, but I dont think they have the emo sound.

Weezer's Pinkerton was emo at it's finest. But the blue and green albums are not emo at all.

And New Found Glory is NOT emo. They are pop-punk, like Blink 182 and Sum-41. i.e: they sing about stuff that has no revalence to their own lives. emo is about expressing your own emotions, not writing some MTV-ready, bubble-gum, meaningless crap.
