I'm asking on behalf of a friend who just called me.

Processor in question: FX-4300
PSU currently in use: Be Quiet! 530W (it's new apparently)

Otherwise there's nothing unusual about the system apparently (eg. single HDD, 2 DDR3 memory modules, no overclocking), but graphics corruptions keep happening during gaming.

GPU temp is apparently 45C during gaming.

If he's getting graphical glitches or artifacts, it's possible the graphics card is faulty and needs to be RMA'd. How long has the card been in use? Is he having the problems in all games or just some games (and which ones in particular)? Did those games work fine before, or did the problems appear in some new game(s) he installed? What driver version is being used?

A 530W power supply is way more than necessary for a 135 watt card. Technically this thread should be in the Computer Help section, or perhaps Video Cards and Graphics.

GPU temp should be at least 60C at full load, usually more.

If indeed the card is (let's just say) trash :'(, there is always that opportunity to "bake" it .

At first I thought it was a hoax, but I tried it out myself recently and it brought my HD 7850 2GB back to life. This was after struggling with the boot-process and after downgrading my driver version to previous ones I was only able to get as far as the login screen and saw a plethora of artifacts that basically surrounded the whole entire screen rendering it useless, because it was from that point on a frozen image. Keyboard/Mouse input didn't do anything to have it respond.

There are several videos on YT, but this one is short, brief, and explains it all HowTo: Bake GPU.

NOTE (before baking GPU):

  • Remove all protective accessories surrounding the card (I let my rubber protections melt my video ports, which I don't use).
  • Let it cool before reassembling it
  • Before re-assembling card back together, re-apply thermal paste on GPU-Core before setting heatsink above it.
  • Attempt to see if it works, by installing card as usual and see for yourself :sneaky:
