Nokia 6310

what a bad ass phone. Is it available in the states yet?

It seems to be similar in appearance to Nokia 6360, but that phone is not yet available in USA. Also, it's spec-sheet doesn't mention Bluetooth or GRPS, so it might be lacking some of the features found in the euro-version.

6310 is a GSM 900/1800 phone and 6360 is a TDMA phone and can not have GPRS or Bluetooth

There is a version of 6310 called 6310i that works on 900/1800/1900 MHz (the GSM standard in the US, as opposed to 900/1800 Mhz elsewhere).

6310i should be available from independent retailers but I think that none of the US GSM carriers has it.

#1: Nokia 6160: my dad took it away after i was caught calling myself into school my junior year of high school and never gave it back. First investment of my life...$200 down the tubes
#2: StarTac: still have it, dropped it in the snow accidentally and left it outside overnight. Talk time lasts about 13 seconds before the battery dies.
#3: nokia 5160: loved the phone, had it for a couple months...soon after, the 5165 came out..and had two way messaging, so i got the newer model.
#4: nokia 5165: got the phone, loved it, phone kept shorting out. Just randomly stopped working
#5: nokia 5165: replaced my broken phone. Stolen from a neon competition in Wisconsin
#6: nokia 5165: still a great phone, almost got a panasonic instead. Still wish i did.

OK, here goes. I've written long posts about cell phones in the past, but not this time.

LG-TM510 with Verizon. Verizon and the phone are both great, the Verizon AC plan beats Sprint in coverage and price (AC is not so seamless though, because it hops from Verizon digital, to Verizon analog, to Alltel digital and analog, and SprintPCS). Long time Verizon customers can switch back to their old regional plan if AC didn't work out for them (they need to call and ask nicely though). The LG-TM510 a very close cousin to the SprintPCS Touchpoint 1100, except the LG is tri-mode (analog, CDMA 800, and CDMA 1900). The Sprint phone is CDMA 1900 only (single mode).

Mine Ericsson KF788. Have had it for 2.5 years, and it never fails. (Cingular)

Wife's Nokia 6190. Have had it for 3 months, and hate it. (US Cellular)

Hehe, I'm going to have gone through 4 phones in the last 10 months when I get a new phone:
Motorola StarTAC Analog - never used it, had a very expensive plan, was for emergencies only - had from Dec 1999 to Sept 2001
Motorola StarTAC Digital - got a better plan, bought off a forum member here, started using my phone - Sept 2001 - Dec 2001
Nokia 3360 - got for $25 when Cingular was running a half off promotion around Christmas Dec 2001-present

After its release:
Nokia 8265 - this is the sucessor to the 8260. Looks to be one sweet phone - hopefully will come out soon

I've become addicted to my cell phone - all of my friends have one, so we gab a lot, espically on the nights & weekends (when its unlimited/virtually unlimited for free). I use it for about 95% of my calls; its convinent, as all of the #s are programmed into it, and it has Caller ID/Call Waiting/3 Way Calling/Voicemail, none of which my home phone has. Plus my mom is annoying on the phone, and a lot of people have anonymous call blocking, and since we have an unlisted # at home, too much work to dial 13 digits when I can just use my cell Next fall I'm going to college at A&M, and the place I'm staying doesn't provide landline service (it costs $20/month). I will just use my cell phone.

I've had one for the last two years, and I'm actually starting to lean that way too.
It's more of an inconvenience than anything, when people are calling you every three minutes.

Try pressing the "power" button once. That should take care of the people calling you. If you want to make a call press the "power" button again. That's what I do.

BTW, I have had a Motorola StarTAC for the last year and it's still going strong.

I have a StarTac ST7868 and Verizon, who are the best carrier where I live. My work phone is the much sexier Motorola V60 (rowr!) with AT&T Wireless.

The V60 is beautiful but it has an annoying tendency to pop open its pretty aluminum shell when you are removing it from its holster.
