I've never worn a watch. Always found them unnecessary. I just use my phone or some other clock that's around me.

For a lot of us, a watch is a tool, not a fashion piece. I can stick my watch into a pool and it still works... I tried that with my old phone... that didn't turn out so well... D: (which is why the phone stays in the truck now!)

I mostly wear one for fashion. I'm among a lot of professionals and they notice things like Florsheim shoes, brand watches, pens, cars, etc. If you look nice, you get noticed.

Of course, this doesn't apply if you can wear jeans and a t-shirt to work (which I wish I could sometimes).

Because if you are going for a fashionable look with high rollers, Florsheim doesn't cut the mustard. Florsheim is a decent shoe brand on a budget, but it's not going to measure up to the Ferragamo shoes the other guys are wearing. Obviously, this is only if you care about people noticing your shoes, which you indicated that you do.

I actually received that exact watch as a gift, but even for my big-watch-loving tastes it is simply much too big and heavy. I regularly wear large divers' watches but that thing is just shockingly huge, and it weighs so much that the sharp edges of the bracelet are actually kind of painful when I am walking around. I got it sized, tried wearing it once, then retired it to a drawer.

you aren't impressing anyone worthwhile with those shoes. The fact is you bragged about being "among a lot of professionals" who "notice things" while bragging about a certain brand. Then you tried to make those that are allowed to wear jeans to work look below you.

ftr I'm wearing Sanuks with my jeans right now and have a meeting with a Sr VP later. He doesn't care about my shoes and I don't feel the need to impress him with my dress

Depends on the occasion. And I wouldn't spend $1k+ for a watch. I'm always wearing a watch outside of the house, I'd hate having to pull out my phone every time I want to know the time.

I wear an Omega Speedmaster Professional as my everyday.

The other watch that I have is a Seagull skeleton watch. It looks a bit better than the Speedmaster in a more professional setting and it's a cheap watch. So I wear the Seagull whenever I travel abroad or wear a suit.

I use my phone. I actually really like watches, and I'm always very tempted to buy another one when I'm in various stores with my wife. But if I do, I'm sure it will end up like most of the watches I had in the past, sitting on my desk for most of the day. I can't stand typing with a watch on, so I always take it off when I work. Then I take it off when I get home. So I ended up only having a watch on for a few hours a day. Shame though because I do like watches.
