I use my phone. I actually really like watches, and I'm always very tempted to buy another one when I'm in various stores with my wife. But if I do, I'm sure it will end up like most of the watches I had in the past, sitting on my desk for most of the day. I can't stand typing with a watch on, so I always take it off when I work. Then I take it off when I get home. So I ended up only having a watch on for a few hours a day. Shame though because I do like watches.

How does a watch bother you when you're typing? The feeling of it on a wrist rest?

you aren't impressing anyone worthwhile with those shoes. The fact is you bragged about being "among a lot of professionals" who "notice things" while bragging about a certain brand. Then you tried to make those that are allowed to wear jeans to work look below you.

ftr I'm wearing Sanuks with my jeans right now and have a meeting with a Sr VP later. He doesn't care about my shoes and I don't feel the need to impress him with my dress

That was not my intent at all. If anything, I wish I didn't have to dress up for work. It would be faster, cheaper, and more convenient. I just work around a lot of professionals where if you're not shiny, they don't think much of you, that's all.

LOL @ bragging. Like I'm Zanejohnson or something.

This is my current beater watch.

I do have one of these I got as a gift from my parents but it's too busy for me personally. I also have a couple other in the ~250 price range but I keep using the Fossil. Dunno why.

That's my guess; he's resting it on a wrist rest or the like. When I was drafting I didn't like wearing a watch because it would often drag along the vellum. So I wore my watch on the wrong wrist for years since I would keep my drawing hand up higher off the paper.

I don't like jewelry or anything unnecessary on me. I'm already caring a phone that has time, no need for a watch.

For a lot of us, a watch is a tool, not a fashion piece. I can stick my watch into a pool and it still works... I tried that with my old phone... that didn't turn out so well... D: (which is why the phone stays in the truck now!)

Wait, you actually did that?

We're in the "a bit upscale" category, not the "Hi, I'm Mitt Romney" category.

Even so, nobody is impressed with Florsheim. Don't get me wrong, it's probably a decent shoe, but it's not an impressive shoe. It's not Bruno Magli, it's Florsheim. Personally it makes no difference to me what type of shoe someone wears, but I also work in circles where it sometimes does.

Yes, it always rubs on the rest and the edge of the desk. I also remove my wedding ring if I'm typing or gaming for a long time because that drives me nuts too.

Is that what you tell your wife?
My watch is kinda heavy so it also bothers me when I type.

Oh she knows. When I game at home on the computer or xbox, I always set my ring on the coffee table. I usually don't take it off at work, because I'm sure I'd forget it on my desk and catch hell when I got home. Luckily I work from home three days a week, so I don't need to type with it the two days I'm at work.

I wear an Accutron watch. It's simple, gold, and it keeps good time. I like it.

I alternate between a GMT Master II (SS ceramic) and a Milgauss (white face) depending on my clothes or activity. Latter was a wedding gift former was a gift to myself.

I don't wear a watch, I just use my phone.

However, when we had our baby my wife picked up a cheap digital watch so she could more easily check feeding times and stuff. Her phone isn't always handy when it's 4 am and the baby's crying.

It's pretty nice, I've worn it a few times as well. Very basic, just tells the time, lights up, and it has a low profile with no sharp edges so it doesn't catch on anything.

Pulling out one's phone and having to press a button to see the time is progress?

Unless you've got one of those sweet secret agent watches that shoots frikkin' laser beams and can apply baby powder to your scrotum, yes, otherwise a cell phone is most certainly a step forward.

The only watch I have right now that actually still runs is a Garmin Forerunner 110. Unless I am running my phone generally serves as my watch these days,

Really a very nice watch.

Can someone suggest a good "beater" watch that can hold up to water, tools, oil changes, etc?
