Thanks!

Newegg has a few for sale.

Also look at C9tech.com and Proportable.com (bought my W3J from them, excellent dealer). There are a few others. IIRC, there is a list of Asus Resellers on Notebookforums.com in the Asus forum.

my dad's T-series IBMs/Lenovo have always been good. when something was wrong, service was all over it with quick return.

my hp dv2000t (got it in september) has been rock solid so far. it's still within the return period (gotta love costco) so i might return it to get it with a webcam...that's the only problem i have with it. i would put its keyboard at the T60's level.

my friend recently (last week) got a dell latitude d620. it was around the same weight as my laptop, good screen (i was surprised, after all the poor reviews i've heard about the D620's screen...maybe dell finally did something about it?), and seemed to be top-notch build quality.

i've never actually worked with an asus but from what i've heard, they have good build quality, service, and awesome for gamers.

my friend has a couple month old compaq 15" (not sure what model)...he's happy with it so for a budget notebook, i suppose compaq would be alright.

i would rank as follows: T-series Lenovo > Dell Latitude = HP Inspiron = Asus > Compaq

My MacBookPro is probably the best laptop I've owned. It's fast, light, sexy, has an awesome LCD, light, and OSX is perhaps the best OS I've used. I also had an HP NC8000 for a couple years which was a sweet laptop. Very sturdy, light, awesome screen, fast, and durable.

Hate:
Dell, Acer
I've owned a Latitude C840, and Inspiron 9200. Both were "plasticky" and not as reliable. The C840 creaked when you picked it up and tended to overheat while playing games to the point it would just freeze. The 9200 was a decent machine, but the LCD developed a problem after just over one year of owning it. The Acer I bought for my father-in-law was cheap, plasticky, and just slow. It didn't inspire a lot of confidence in me and I doubt I'd buy another one.

The cheaper Acers do tend to suck, but on the higher end they're great. I've been using a TravelMate 8200 for the last few months, and it's perfect. Carbon-fiber case, looks sexy as hell, quiet when the CPU and/or HD isn't at full load, and fast as hell. Plus the 3.5 hour battery life (I get about 3.2 average) is great for the power the machine offers. Plus I can upgrade practically EVERYTHING (CPU, RAM, Graphics, HD, CD/DVD drive (proprietary component))in the notebook

Their proprietary software (most of which you can uninstall if you wish) also actually serves a valid purpose, and serves it well (with a few exceptions), and doesn't bog down performance.

Dell's not bad IMO, but their cheap laptops made for people on a budget. You could do better.

IBM/Lenovo Thinkbooks are insane.

Sony sucks a$$. I have yet to see a non-overpriced Sony.
