What magazines do you PC guys subscribe to?

i subscribe to MaximumPC, but find their articles pretty bad and poorly rated

I subscribe to MaximumPC, and find their articles pretty good.

You would probably be better off with the pdf archive.

Well, you're close, just take-off some letters.

Personally, I prefer dry technical articles without the infusion of political/ideological/editorial commentary or slant. You learn vastly more per 1000 words. If I wanted the other stuff, I would just pick-up The Enquirer or US Weekly at the supermarket checkout.

I'm still subscribed to MaximumPC, because I got a killer 4 year deal. The content seems to be getting pushed aside for ad space. I get that they need revenue to survive. They make the choice to host more ads, I make the choice to read them less...
I let my subscription to CPU magazine laps. I really liked the depth and variety of the articles, but I'm getting as much or more coverage online.
I love to sit down with a magazine and read in-depth articles about tech issues and reviews.

I listen to tech podcast religiously and find that magazines are just too dated by the time I get them.
Besides that, they tend to review such high end components, that it just doesn't matter to me.

My tech information, more and more, comes in the for of podcasts, forums or other online reviews.

No, I haven't subscribed to a magazine in years. I find the adds and the junk re-subscribe mail too annoying... I find the articles in the mags are usually a month behind from what you can read on the net.

are CPU magazines more suited for one thats looking for overclocking help, more technical stuff?

i'm not feeling maxPC because they made some pretty bad decisions imo, one of which are: zalman coolers.
maxpc also doesn't really do good cpu comparisons nor ram comparisons. does CPU magazine compare the different Intel CPU's with each other so we know the differences? same w/ AMD

I used to subscribe to a bunch of gamer magazines, some of course are defunct and haven't been published in years. PSM (before I guess they've turned to their new label), Official U.S. Playstation Magazine and GamePro (although I think they are still in business).

From time to time, I'll pick up a Time magazine or one of the many computer tech magazines, though not so much since I didn't have a job for about 9 months.

Years ago I use to have sub, to 10 computer mags.

In the last few years it dwindled to PC-Mag, and PC World.

PC-MAG "died" 5 months ago.

This month I did not renew my sub. to PC-World (half of the content is dedicated to Cell. phones).

Paper Mags. by nature are 2 o 3 months behind the real world, they became sort of useless given what is these days on the Internet.

whatever the topic, you can usually get better and far more recent information off the net. it's like waiting for the morning paper to come and tell you what happened last month.

I let my subscriptions lapse a few years ago on Fine Homebuilding and Fine Woodworking - if I come up with the bucks I might renew for a few years. Really good stuff if you are into that kind of thing.
