What makes you feel old?

In the last week, the following realizations have made me feel old at 25 yrs:

Kobe is 30, on the tail end of his prime. I remember his first year out of High School

Jay Leno did his last show. I remember sneaking down as a 12 year old/ young teenager to listen to his Clinton/Lewinsky jokes during the week when my parents were asleep

Eminem, the best rapper since 2pac died (yes, I hate most other rap), in his only real good song on his new CD, "Beautiful", said "Ill be one hard act to follow". I remember when he came on the scene he was insane.


Maybe ive drank too much tonight. Who knows. But damn, life goes by.

Um, it's a quarter-life crisis dude. Might as well try to fake yourself into thinking you're going to live to 100.

Try something different - traveling, re-evaluate your career, etc., but most importantly, make sure you're having fun.

Aha good idea. Sadly I know that despite how I exercise and lift weights, i'm punching out before 100. I love beer, tequila, pizza, and fried foods waaaaay too much. I also did way too many drugs as a teen.

As far as career/money/etc, I really couldnt have asked for anything more than I have.


Come on, you cant tell me certain things dont make you feel like an old fart!

Go get a group of friends, go somewhere, pick up a girl. If you have an SO/Wife, don't take her home/go anywhere with it, but at the very least you'll know you can still do it.

Watched Jack Paar do his last show.

At 25 you're still a puppy but if it makes you any better you're still to young to be president.

I remember having a conversation with my mother a few years before she died. We were sitting on the back porch and I said when you are young you have an idea of how an adult thinks and feels and I was still waiting to feel like an adult, (I was in my late 30's at the time). My mother who was in her 70's just laughed and said she too was waiting to feel like an adult. After that I never gave age another thought.

I used to work with an older guy that swore that a good shit was better than sex. I remember thinking I'm never going to get to that point.

Having grown up playing original nintendo. Talking to youngsters 18-20 about tv shows I use to watch that they've never even heard of freaks me out. Wife claims to of pulled a gray hair out of my head. I claim to this day it was just a hair that didn't have color for some reason. 28 years old by the way. 2 years till 30 is hard to wrap my head around sometimes. 30!!! :shocked:

I had a mini-crisis when I was 25 as well.
By the time I was 20 I had done an awful lot in the service. Kosovo and the middle-east, and some other stuff as well. By the time I was 25 my life had actually slowed down quite a bit. I had plenty of things to look back on.

Just turned 30 last week and I realized I haven't accomplished nearly as much as I had hoped. Also toying with the notion that the most interesting part of my life has already passed me by.

That explains a lot. Carson was the real deal, Leno wasn't really funny at all and Conan is a nut job. But you know you are old when current pop culture fails to be impressive and you cling to the old days for solace. Thats ok however, since most things from 1990 forward was garbage anyway.

- Watching baseball and realizing they're all younger than me
- Being unable to understand some of the values espoused by younger people, eg. sympathy for muslims and criminals
- Being completely unable to understand what metal has turned into. It's basically 1 guy screeching while another beats up an innocent double bass drum, wtf?
- Not immediately snapping back after pushing my body, either with cardiovascular exercise, weight lifting or (most commonly) excessive amounts of alcohol
- "SNAP CRACKLE POP!!" when I wake up. I'm not talking about Rice Krispies
- Senior Moments - I'll do things on autopilot and occasionally snap out of it to find myself doing weird things like putting the milk away in the cabinet after putting some in my coffee, or worse, leaving the oven / stove on after cooking, leaving the garage door open, etc.

Same age, but starting feeling it at 21.

I learned to ride a motorcycle. Wanted to get one, but wanted to make sure it was a 1/3 life crisis, not 0.9/1.0.
