Hey guyes quick question that I haven't found the answer to via google.

What motherboard is in the new Alienware AREA-51 X58 system with the core i7 cpu? I know they use Asus but I would like to know exact features, a pictures would be great of the board, and if you happen to know if this mobo is crippled in any way compared to a retail board you would buy seperately?

We don't buy Alienware here

Unless you can find someone who has one & is willing to take pics, or list model names (if there is any listed) & check out BIOS details, you're not likely going to find much.

Maybe contact Alienware directly?

It looks like a standard P6T Deluxe. That's all I can say from the pictures on their website.

n7, i'm well aware lol and trust me if i wasn't desperate i wouldn't even be considering it however my current rig is OLD, 3.5 years old to be exact.
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4ghz, 1gb kingston value, 74gb raptor, 6600gt, and the dfi SLI-DR mobo round out the main basic parts of this old rig which was at one time top of the line.
I am now starting to notice performance hit so it's time to upgrade.

I asked about the mobo because I can get this system in its base model for $999 no tax. That's a 920 Core i7, 3gb ddr3 1066, 750w psu (my current is 480w neopower), 9800gt, etc etc.
Better than my rig right? The idea is to purchase it then cut the system for parts. The case will be sold immediately, the videocard will be replace within a month or 2 once the new nvidia card comes out and drives down the price of current cards i'll go for something like the gtx 260 or a 1gb 4870. The mobo was to know how crippled it will be so i can figure out if i would want invest in a new mobo right away before moving the system to my current case or if it is actually decent enough to leave in there for the foreseeable future. Ram would also stay for now and not upgraded until after a new mobo. And last to figure out if it would even fit in my current case which is a Silverstone HTPC case.

I know i know i talk a lot.
But for that price it's decent right? It should be worth more than that in parts -minus what i get back from the sale of the case

Corsair 750W - 120
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-DS4 - 245
i7 920 - 300
Corsair - 95
Case - reuse
HD - reuse
Optical - reuse
VidCard - you would have about 240 to spend here so you can get a 260 if you like. Otherwise you can get a 9800gt for about 130. Seems like it would be a waste to buy that just to save a little bit of money in two months though.

All those are quality parts with little limitations. I would do that before going with Alienware just cause it looks like a deal.

swanysto, reusing the case, HD, and dvd drive were all part of the plan. Did you calculate the sale of the alienware case, 250gb HDD, and 20x burner as well? Not to mention it comes with a vista home premium 64bit key while i stilll run XP pro.
I think it is a decent deal once all signs of alienware is removed but a crippled mobo would be a deal breaker as I would need to purchase one right away.

If you wanna go through all that mess, than have fun. The only positive to the way you are doing it is getting the OS. You are not going to make much off the case and those drives.
