Had to google this thread cause this option may be in a upcoming build for my wife.I did recall hearing about all these cheap motherboards suddenly not being to oc the G3258.

Is this still a issue?I am running Windows 7 and the new tower will be as well.

It's either a option like this or maybe a 5400k/7600k Apu.Budget wouldn't allow anything Skylake and i could certainly afford something a bit nicer then a G1820 so for $70 or so i do have a few options.I wouldn't mind a better IGP.

If i get the G3258,chances are a low voltage stock oc to maybe something like 4ghz.Just wondering if there is any boards still allowing ocing on the cheap.

Hi All
I've bought a G3258 and Gigabyte GA-H81M-H (rev 2.1) for my NAS box.
It seems that the voltage is no longer limited to 1.2V on this mobo (BIOS ver F2).
Even better, I left voltage on auto, selected 44x and voila: running stable 4.4GHz with 1.3V

One thing to mention:
On Linux, latest Intel microcode does indeed disables overclocking. BIOS posts as 4.4GHz, Linux boots and as soon as ucode is loaded, CPU clocks down to 3.2GHz.
Depending on your distro, the package name would be "microcode_ctl" or "intel-ucode"
Just make sure this package is not installed.

Cheers

I have a Asrock B85M ITX. It Shipped with BIOS 2.40. 2.40 will allow Vcore up to 2 volts but has no multiplayer adjustment.

I installed Windows 7 and flashed 2.30. I then overclocked it to 4.4 ghz with little more than a few clicks in the BIOS. Most everything is still on auto. I noticed the Vcore is over 1.4v but it runs cool enough (with a HSF form a i5 4670K, same as the stock HSF that came with the G3258 I believe.) I may be able to lower the voltage a little.

It spent most of the day updating Windows 7 and upgrading to Windows 10. It's working fine now running Windows 10 overclocked. I think it is all up to date. It went pretty smooth but took too long. I had absolutely no issues with the alleged Intel sabotage of non Z overclocking.

edit..
So this morning I wake it up and it's running 3.2 ghz? I renamed mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll, rebooted and it ran 4.4 ghz again. Bumped the multiplier up to 46 in Windows and it seems stable. 47 got a BSOD. I need to get a mounting kit for my old Noctua U12.

I just found the leak bios for h81/b85 msi motherboard
this bios can support g3258 do overclocking on msi b85/h81
just take a look~

Hello, I am new to this forum altough I have been browsing it for some time already. Now I am in a problem where I have motherboard MSI B85-G41 PC mate with G3258. And as I figured out too late that I can't OC in that motherboard. Now I saw some cracked bios but the link is not available anymore unfortunately. Has anyone got the bios still and can share this to my e-mail or in here with a link?
I know hot to OC, I had Asus M81i-PLUS and got 4,4ghz there but that MSI board just won't OC even after bios update to the latest one. Halp!
It's win 7.

I saw you folks posted before getting your G3258 overclocked on H81M-H 2.1 board

I have a brand NEW G3258 stock cooler and
NEW Gigabyte H81M-H (rev2.1)
with newest bios.
trying to use integrated graphics. set to normal/default settings.

I've gotten a ton of G3258s to overclock 4.2-4.5Ghz range. on different boards.
But i have no clue how people are doing it with a H81M-H
Maybe you can help me.
I don't know if its the motherboard is shit...
I can only get it to 3.5-3.7Ghz and runs like a turd sorta. and crashes 3.6-3.7ghz

I just want to get 4.0-4.4Ghz and i know that's capable on stock cooler.

If you remember can you tell me exact settings you have in bios. other wise i am pretty sure my board is bad or something. I have more but i took small investment on these motherboards, i have like 4 of them and i feel like they suck ass.

Thanks
J

Also some boards i barely had to do a thing and they were already stable...

Ok the update is i am at 4.0Ghz on the H81M-H
I think its stable. but i am trying to determine if i corrupted my windows.
It passed a whole bunch of tests without crashing at Crucial Tracer Ram running @1333Mhz.
I think it crashed some at 1x8gb crucial tracer ram 1600Mhz 4.0Ghz

I see some can get this board to 4.1-4.4Ghz and thats my next goal.
I don't know if i corrupted my windows though from doing it the wrong way the first attempts.

What i found out was you literally didn't need to touch anything...
Just change clock to 3.8-3.9-4.0 and passed.

Now i will try to add voltage to see if i can get over 4.1Ghz i am stuck at 4.0

Ok i am still stuck at only 4.0Ghz.. I don't know whats holding it back from moving to 4.1+
I can even pass with 1.2V K OC on.. I am removing limiter from voltage that can go to the processor as well. but i still don't think it will work.

************UPDATE************* 6/1/16
Ok I got to 4.4GHZ! i am done and happy with that. To achieve this i had to go very high on Voltage 1.9 first voltage settings, and second is 1.35+ i think (if its not that high, it will crash)
However it doesn't like 1400Mhz or 1600Mhz Speed XMP or anything.
so i am at 1333mhz.

The next issues are kind of annoying too. Hopefully you folks can help me figure it out.
It shows it spikes on cpu z 61-66 (i swore i thought i need to be near 80 for it to throttle...)
and shows 3.7Ghz-4.4Ghz when running applications or downloading.
So its thermal throttling?
If its 4.0-4.4Ghz Ill be more happy. but is this fine?
Any fixes like aftermarket paste. The whole point of this experiment is to use stock cooler. I think its set to performance mode in windows and on bios fan speed.
Using stock paste atm. (it was very clean and fresh out of the box)

hey guys

I'm desperately trying to overclock my g3258 on a asrock h81 pro BTC motherboard and I have tried all of the available downloads from asrock in beta and full releases and all of them wont allow me to set a higher CPU multiplier.

So I went looking for some info and found this post

looks like it's a no go for the asrock H81 pro BTC, won't go over 3200, even though cpu-z shows higher multi's as available, no non-z oc to be seen in the bios.

edit: scratch that, beta bios (1.54) has it, and it works. Asrock H81 Pro BTC

I then got excited and searched around the web for the 1.54 beta bios and I could not find it anywhere.

@Flapdrol1337

Have you still got the beta Bios 1.54 ?
It would really really make my day if you do and could share it.

or can anyone else help me for my quest to find 1.54 beta bios for the asrock Pro BTC H81?

Thanks !

My question is, after the update in microchips, can i overclock?
I see in internet some things about the updates in h81's mother boards.. Intel stoped the overvlock in these mbs..
I use win10 and i'm scared if is possible.. I just need a basic OC and know is better a z97.. But can anyone help me? Still working? Need just download another bios? Very thanks

I just did an OC to 4.2Ghz (thus far, stable, at 1.3V) of the G3258 CPU, in a Biostar H81MHV3. The trick with this one is, you have to back-flash (I used the built-in BIOS flasher, F12 in BIOS to access Flash menu) the "123" BIOS (initial release BIOS) downloadable on their web site.

It was mostly effortless. I had to select "CPU Ratio Mode" as "Fixed" rather than "All Cores", and use a Linux boot disk to rename "mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll" (both copies), in Win10 1607 64-bit.

Very thanks for you time to come and explain all to me.
Well..
In this week, i go start the job in my pc whit these guys.. The mobo and proc.
I save this link off the asrock bios drivers.. Maybe my mobo use the last of them, correct?
So to start.. I need download to a pendrive, a old version of bios.. Maybe the 2014, to acess control OC options?
After, need just rename or delete that intel arquive, correct?
And if all's good.. Make the OC whit win10..
Any error?
Very very thanks

Hi all,

I have a G3258 with an ASUS Q87M-E and I was wondering if it's possible to CPU ratio OC on this board. I contacted ASUS about this and the live chat rep said it's possible and supported but that their live chat doesn't support overclocking advice.

Since you have the parts, the best way to find out is to go into the BIOS and adjust the multiplier, say just to 35 so you won't need extra voltage, then boot into your OS and see how fast it's running.

It doesn't allow me to go above 32x. I believe this is a result of some Microsoft code, not the hardware since an acquaintance who does builds with this mobo says he can overclock K processors just fine.

I wouldn't know about that part, but booting into something like Parted Magic could test the idea.

That's a weird variant, it could be used to repair something like a monitoring PC for an old PLC. I don't think anyone has seen one, much less overclocked one.

That's a pretty LOL-worthy board. LPT, COM, VGA, PCI? And no front USB3.0? Must be made for developing nations, there's no way that board would sell in the USofA.

Anyways, have you tried it with a G3258 yet? On my Gigabyte H81M-DS2V board (shipped with F5 BIOS), all I really had to do was increase the multiplier, and eventually the vcore, in BIOS. F6 BIOS led to even better overclocking.

There are some situations where a board like that would be a life saver, not in this arena though.

Yup, my PC is setup with g3258 on this H81m- WW mobo. It works fine. Just wanted to know if there was any scope for boosting performance. Right now it's a very basic setup. Thanks guys for the info.

If you already have it, you don't need us to tell you. Go into the setup program, and change the CPU multiplier to something higher than 32, then use a program like CPU-Z to see if it is working.

Also - what OS are you using? Win10 1511 has a microcode patch that nerfs the OC inside Windows.

On my Biostar HMV3 (?) board(s), I had to set CPU multiplier mode to "fixed", and then adjust "CPU ratio" to 40x, and then I changed the vcore to 1.280V, just for good measure.

Win10 1607 installs and boots with the OC, and CPU reports it's still OCed inside Windows.
