That seems good to me. Others have only got 3.8 as it depends on each cpu, some you can clock high and some not so high.

But it's safe go for 4.4 at v1.38+? or i should keep the 4.3 at 1.33? at least my temps on full load don't go over 70ºc

Hello friends
I'm new around and want to know if my GIGABYTE GA-H81M-S1 will overclock this beast of a Pentium. I have latest Bios installed (F6) and this were the notes for the Bios releases:

F5- Support New 4th Generation Intel Core Processors
F6- Improve Intel K-sku CPU performance

Does this mean I will be able to overclock this beast? I don't understand hardware very much because I'm new to PC, but I'm trying to learn alot lately, I read alot about hardware, but there are some things that are still new to me and hard to understand!
Thank you very much, hope I am welcome

You'll probably be able to overclock. Try and read up on it first so you can do it properly.

What do you mean friend?
I didn't buy the CPU yet, I want to be sure I will be able to overclock it before buying, I've contacted gigabyte but I didn't get a reply yet hope they write me back soon

Really need some help here guys. How do I update my bios so I can enable overclocking? Mine is Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2 rev 3.0, but it says here http://www.gigabyte.ph/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5182#bios that its latest is just F1, but I believe I need at least F5 to enable overclocking. I'm confused. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
(And btw if I update using F5 or F6 from rev 1.0 it says Incorrect file size)

I've had OK results with ASRock H97M Anniversary.

G3258 3.8GHz running for a couple weeks without issue. I tried 4.0 and 4.2 and got BSODs using the automatic "non-Z overclocking" feature. I'm also running the Win10 Preview, so I'm not 100% sure these were OC stability related.

Annoyingly, vcore stays at 1.15v all the time. It never varies with load/clockspeed. There doesn't seem to be any way of using offset voltage to OC with this board.

At $75 CAD, at least the price was right for H97 and all the connectors.

I would be dissapointed if my G3258 does only that, still got to build it yet, might do less but it is on the MSI H81m-p33 board.

Yeah, I was expecting better. I didn't want to push it though, as this computer lives in a closed cabinet, and running a higher constant vcore would get things toasty in there.

If I had tinkered with the vcore settings manually instead of just using their auto-OC, I'm sure I could have gotten 4.2 stable. However, this computer basically just drives a TV in the kitchen for recipes, web browsing, music, and videos, so there didn't seem to be much point.

v1.33 is safe on this cpu with a good cooler?

Hey guys, new here

Well, I have had the pleasure to utilize 3 G3258 on my H81M-Plus from Asus.

First chip died due to excessive temperature/excessive core/cache voltage and had literally "1hour on the clock"

Second chip max 4.6ghz ( putting it on ebay tomorrow actually )

Third chip overclocks to 5.0ghz on air ( good cooler, very cold case temp ) but is unstable, and needs high voltage, I run it daily at 4.7-4.8ghz. All settings on auto except I manually set voltage.

At 4.9ghz a slight burning smell can be noticed under heavy load, and the only way for it to be stable is to change vrm settings etc.
Could that smell be the VRM frying? No heatsink on the vrm etc on these boards.

Quick question...
Does a Z97 board <insert any brand here> have ANY advantage on the overclocking front compared to the H81. What I am trying to ask is would it allow me to reach 5GHZ or more?
The asus h81 can change vccin, core v , cache v, voltage frequency 250-350, current capabilty, load line calibration, power phase control and more.

Regards
Mark

I put together a build a few days ago, with G3258 using Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SOC LGA 1150 Z97. Still just using the stock cooler 4600mhz@1.35 is stable. Chip does not seem to like anything more than 1.4 volts, but that might be the cooling, even though it basically runs cool. A AIO, wicks that heat away, that much faster. You can bump up clock speeds with buttons on the fly with that m/b, it's cool. Highest I've had it running is 4900mhz. Not stable though.

To flash bios on gigabyte boards. Format a flash drive with fat32. right quick choose quick format. Then d/l the bios zip for your exact m/b from the gigabyte site and put all files from that zip on the flash drive. Go to q-flash in bios and point to flash drive, it will look for it.

Running good here on the cheap and cheerful MSI h81m-p33. Set at 4.0Ghz stock cooler, one exhaust fan, still cool.

How's the board? I still have mine sitting in the box from a Newegg deal waiting for a deal on the G3258 cpu. Smallest motherboard box I've ever had for a microATX board.

Once I realized the G3258 had to be overclocked far beyond any cheap board's ability to do so just to keep up with a fast i3, I simply lost interest in it. A G3258 might provide a decent entry-level overclocking experience, but don't expect too much from one. It is not much more than a toy.

I am happy with it. The small size does not mean it misses out on features. Only has two memory slots, but that is enough for me. If I had the money for more memory I would have enough for a new cpu and a z97 board.
There is no usb 3 header on board, only the usb 3 ports at the back.

No manual is included and the online download is zipped.
This board seems to have good results when o/c the G3258. Also happy with this processor. It is a budget processor but it does what I need.

Agreed. Though, for someone on a budget, you can often get a G3258 + mobo combo deal for less $ than just the i3 CPU, and when overclocked sufficiently (possible even on the stock cooler), it's almost as fast.

Edit: Certainly, it makes a more than adequate web-browsing box, esp. with an SSD.

I was on a budget. I pulled my SSD and my 2.5 sata h/d from my laptop for this build. The mobo and cpu cost the same as an i3. I dont think it is a toy. Wife has an i5, daughter has an i3 laptop and given the tasks it is used for it performs just as well.
