One machine is the MS optical, the other is an MS Intelli-eye, both much better than my old regular Intelli-mouse. Rail hunting in Q3/2 is far easier, atleast for me it is.

Tried the intellieye version but it tended to make me spin in circles or look straight up or down playing UT and Q3.

Does anyone know which is better for gameing (and obviously for general work stuff too), The Intellimouse Optical or The Intellimouse Explorer? And does anyone have a precise description of what the differences are? I need to get a new mouse (my current intellimouse is driving me up the wall), but I want to make sure I get the right one as these new optical ones don't come cheap..

i use the good ol' Genius Netscroll that came with my computer and a dodgy mousepad with the shops logo on it

i'll probably get slammed for saying this but, as long as your mouse is comfortable to use (which most are these days) i think questions like this: Does anyone know which is better for gaming? is stupid. i have friends that i LAN with that have logitech gaming mouses and everglide gaming pads and stuff like that, but i am still way better at using the rail gun in q2/q3a than any of them. i can get better accuracy than them when i use an old serial mouse and they use a usb/ps2 mouse. for gaming, skill is more important than the price you pay for your mouse/pad.

im not trying to say im unbeatable with the rail or anything . im just saying that alot of people expect a mouse to increase their skill. like most things, it all comes down to practice.

Yeah.. when the whole hoopla about mouse overclocking came out I think good old John Carmack said it was about 1-2%... (that was probubly with a PII-400).. so nowerdays with a top system it'd probubly be un-noticable...

I've been using a Microsoft IntelliMouse with IntelliEye since Christmas, and it works great. It seems to be built a lot better than the Explorers and Opticals (I think that's the new one) that I've tried at the store.
