I think there are less lefties than that

The basic MS optical wheel mouse would be a great choice for your mom. If she's used to an old ball mouse, she'll be thrilled; the MS doesn't require periodic cleaning, it feels fine in the hand, it's fairly inexpensive, and it just plain works.

(And it blows the last base model Logitech optical mouse I bought out of the water. I'm not talking about the really nice ones; I'm talking about the basic cheapie optical two-button+wheel mice that a mom would use. MS > Logitech for a basic mouse.)

I have a logitech MX700 at home, and a Logitech MX1000 at work (I bought them both, but I like the MX700 better which is why I didn't take my MX1000 home).

Microsoft wheelmouse optical.. nothing fancy

I have a cordless wheelmouse in the closet. I wanted the lower response time of the corded version.

Logitech iFeel corded mouse. Been through four years of slamming and hasnt missed a beat. Love that little guy. Does anyone know the purpose of having your mouse shake when you go over folders? So strange.

I like my MX510 for precision in games, but i prefer the shape of Microsoft cordless mice, so unless she's gaming, i'd get her a wireless Microsoft.

Two wheels? Sweet baby Jesus, when will the wheel fad end?! If convenience is key it should be replaced with two buttons or a rocker, perhaps beside a full-sized middle button.
