It's coming. The shutdown. And soon.
Republicans will link funding the government, debt ceiling, and Obamacare via a vote this Friday. And there you have it. The perfect storm.

And I could go along with the hard line Obama will take, has taken.
Letting republicans do their dirty work, letting everything go into the crapper.
Except for and sadly, we all know what will happen in the end.
Certain "untouchables" like social security checks will be emergency funded by even hard nosed republicans fearing voter retaliation. Military pay emergency funded.
And no doubt those congressional pay checks funded.

All while the economy goes south, along with retirement savings, stock markets, 401K's, and most everything recovery related.

My point?
If this is the republican goal, their tizzy fit knee jerk, then let all the cards fall.
Every single card.
No exceptions.
No SS checks. No exemptions. No exceptions.
No duck and cover for house republicans willing to take that death dive.

If this is their wish, to kick the country in the crotch, then tie those hands behind their backs.
No defensive hand protection allowed, as the kick comes swinging to that unprotected mid area.
Feel the pain. All of it. Because THAT pain voters will not forget.
But if congress and the president, once again, together in some unholy alliance pick and chose who is exempt from feeling the pain, then voters will forget.
Will forget that full on crotch kick by house republicans.
Forget the meaning of accountability at the voting booth.
Just like last time....

It's just republicans playing to their far right, retarded base. Nothing will come from it, not even like the last time. The funny thing is that a government shut down will, in all likelyhood, do nothing to defund Obamacare.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/09/government-shutdown-obamacare-aca-97030.html?hp=t2_3

The republicans have absolutely nothing in this go around.

Get the pop corn though because we will hear the republicans talking as if the deck was stacked on their favor.

Government shutdown has backfired and caused more grief for the Republicans in the past than it was worth in my opinion.

At this point, i would actually feel sorry for the sane republicans but they did it to themselves by letting all the talking heads turn their base into nutjobs.

By only choosing to defund Obamacare or shutdown the government and refuse to pay our debts? I guess that's true patriotism.

How many potential shutdowns over the years? How many actually happened? Create a thread when it actually happens.

Thx

I don't GARA about Dems or Pubs. It is my wish that some accountability be brought back to DC and the USA. Is it right for the Dems or the Pubs to continue spending like a drunken sailor and to burden future generations with the failed policies of today? Take your partisian hat off and replace it with a patriotic one. Stop spending on stupid federal programs, stop spending on stupid wars, stop sending all kinds of aids to other countries if you want some quick hits.

I dont think anyone seriously thinks the government will shut down. But republicans have to look like they tried to defund obamacare or they will face primary challengers.

Putting a cap on government spending is retarded?

Wow, now I can not buy whatever I want. If the government can spend, spend, spend,,,, then so can everyone else.

All this time I thought having a balanced budget and staying out of debt was a wise financial decision. Guess I was wrong.

This isn't about putting a cap on government spending this is about paying our bills. You wouldn't go out and get a mortgage on a house and then decide that you were going to be fiscally responsible the next day by telling the bank to pound sand. They would kick you to the curb and destroy your credit.

You would not get two or three mortgages, decide you want a 4th, so you take out a loan in your kids name. Then decide you want a 5th house, so you take out a loan in your grandkids name.

Being fiscally responsible means living within a budget.

When the government needs more money they just raise the debt limit and print more money. Which is "not" being fiscally responsible.

Who is going to pay back this $85 billion the federal reserve is pumping into the economy every month, plus the money from the national debt? Do you realize the national debt is already at a point we will never be able to pay it down?

Every penny you, your kids and your grandkids will pay in taxes is already spent. But yet the government wants to raise the debt limit again?

The amount of spending the federal government is doing is insane.

Texas and all the others have been told this hundreds of times, not sure it will sink in this time either.

The debt cap is not about paying our bills, it is about overspending.

Explain to me how we are going to pay down the national debt? Every penny you, your kids and your grandkids will ever pay in taxes has already been spent.

But you want to raise the debt ceiling again?

When is this madness going to stop? Maybe when the federal reserve runs out of ink?

As for as this debt limit being about "paying our bills." Texas is required by law to have a balanced budget. Funny how we never shut down. We pay our bills, and provide services for our citizens, all without going into debt.

The federal government needs to do the same thing.

I didn't even need to click on your second set of links to know what they were. Dear Leader is really a piece of work. You'd think at some point his ardent followers would feel some sense of shame.

I wonder how many miles Obama has accrued on the CC from the bank of China?

People said the same thing when Reagan was President. Sky didn't fall then and it won't now. How about you start writing all your Republican representatives and tell them to stop spending money do we don't have to keep raising the ceiling. Make sure you include a list of all the things you want them to stop spending on, and make sure you understand what impact each cut will have on the deficit long term.

Like Alan Greenspan said, we can always print more money.

But printing money is not being financially responsible.

We have built a house of cards where the entire national is dependent on government spending. One day that house will have to come down.

We simply can not continue spending money out of thin air.

I just stopped having conversations with those who don't understand what the debt ceiling is and how it works. If they are too stupid to look it up and understand it then they are too stupid to talk to in the first place.

I also understand partisan call outs that have occurred with every debt ceiling raise, where the non ruling party always complains that raising the debt ceiling is irresponsible until their party is in power. It's done to appease the idiots of their party who don't understand what's going on.

You know you have certain bills to pay every month, right? Cell phone bill, house note, car note, insurance, electric bill,,,,.

Would you blow your money, then go ask your boss for a raise to pay your bills? I tell you what, I am going to take my house note money (my house is paid off by the way), spend that money on hookers and blow, then go ask my boss for more money. What do you think he is going to say?

That is what congress and the president is doing. They blow the money the tax payers send in, then the government ask for more money.

When are we going to start saying no?

Every tax dollar your grandchildren will ever pay in has already been spent. How much is enough?

~ EDIT ~

Let the government shutdown. It will probably be the best thing that ever happened to this nation.
