The House is working today. The Senate? They decided to take the day off. I guess we know how important all this really is. Not very much is the message I get from ol' Dingy Harry.

You're 73 Harry, time to smell the roses.

Oh lookie here...more Republican talking points! What do you want the Senate to do...come in a reject the bill again? What part of "no room for negotiation on the ACA" do you guys not understand?

The Republicans didn't do any work this weekend. \They did the same thing they already did on last week...provide a bill that is guaranteed to never get passed. Applaud them when they do something constructive instead of partisan political masturbation.

Another interesting thing to think about, the republicans are demanding that Obama dismantle his signature domestic achievement in return for a continuing resolution. That means they are basically asking him to destroy the work of his first term in exchange for a few months of functioning government.

So if there was any remaining doubt about just how batshit crazy the republicans have become after losing yet another election, that should make it clear.

Harry was damned near livid when Cruz was doing his thing. Days afterwards he complained bitterly about the clock ticking down and how time was getting short, etc.

Now I fully understand that you have no problems with the Dem's dictating how things are going to be. I get that. It makes everything so much easier that way. Dictate some shit, smoke a little Choom, relax and watch the game in the private box from one of your big donors. Legislating made easy peasy.

But it's the House's job to do what they did. I can't fault them for that.

Obama already delayed the employer mandate...

So again...

Obama not negotiating = good
Republicans seeking compromise = bad

Obama delaying Obamacare = good
Republicans delaying Obamcare = bad

how do you guys keep up?

Senate job is to follow up on bills from the House.

It is to not say that anything from the House is DOA.

The WH can declare a DOA because of the veto override.

Where were they in August? The recess needs to go when we've been dealing with CRs and no budget for the last several years. This "last minute" shit needs to stop. It's a burden on every government agency that tries to plan for more than a month at a time.

How can you say that with a straight face? The House hasn't been following up on Senate bills.

Just like the House, the Senate has its own rules in regards to how bills are brought to the floor. It doesn't have to do anything that you suggested in your first sentence.

In a pinch, either chamber can rush through a one week extension (or whatever) as fast as they actually want to. This time, however, there is no point in doing so. The line has been drawn in the sand. It's not a quibble over a few millions dollars here and there, it's about concrete barriers.

Republicans want to delay/defund the ACA, and they will accept nothing else. That is a condition that Democrats will not accept under any circumstances. There's your shutdown.

The republicans are not seeking compromise. They are taking hostages.

If you think the republicans are compromising, please tell me what you think they are giving in to Obama on.

How are you guys this easily fooled? As I have said before, the contempt that liberals have for the intellect of the conservative base pales in comparison to the contempt conservative leadership clearly has for the intellect of their base.

Obama gets his debt ceiling raised again.

His debt ceiling? Congress, including the House Republicans, passed every dime of spending. Given the Republican track record on spending and then refusing to cover their spending with taxes, it would be far more reasonable to call it the Republican Debt Ceiling.

Oh wait, you're serious.

/facepalm

The idea that the president owes Congress a favor for raising the debt ceiling to pay for expenditures that they already agreed to in the budget is birther-lever stupidity.

Not obamas debt ceiling and republicans have publicly stated they want the debt ceiling to be raised as well.

Compromise is being willing to accept something you don't want I'm exchange for something you do. Republicans want the debt ceiling raised and they want to defund the ACA. They are proposing that in exchange for doing something they want, they will do something they want. Compromise not found.

So again, list the compromises. (Hint: there aren't any, they lied to you yet again and you fell for it.)

Though anecdotal I'm dealing with problems with Obamacare. Got a letter from my insurance on Friday that I'll be dropped. Not 100% sure that's resulting from obamacare, but 99%. I'm fairly certain I'll pay more when I figure out what I want to do.

Republicans are trying to draw support from the idea that I'm a majority type experience, though they may be right, it's just the wrong avenue they are taking.

IMO government shutdown that is likely coming isn't a concern, but republicans need to find a way to make the ACA better in a manner that looks like they are trying to make it better. I do enjoy the bozos on TV who are drawing up excitement around this.

They're incapable of that on an ideological level. They've staked the future of their party on smaller govt, so making big govt better is impossible for them to even consider. They sabotage govt to discredit it.

It's true that they're only against big govt when they're out of power, but their base never notices.

When the Repubs are in power, their base gets thrown a bone or two so they go back to their doggie dens and get busy gnawing on those bones with their ears shut and their eyes closed because all is good and fine. All this while their very own legislators and their super rich benefactors are knifing them in the back, taking away their gov't benefits, sending their jobs overseas and using those savings to stuff the pockets of the very rich who then throw these lapdog legislators their own bone or two.

Trickle down Reaganomics at its finest.

Well I don't agree with the Republican House on their strategy regarding this situation...it's exercising rather poor judgement and will cause them more harm than good. They are just going to piss off more people when the govt shuts down. That said, I don't think the President or Senate will walk away unscathed if the govt shuts down. Polls are showing steady disapproval for the President dealing with Republicans and this situation and with foreign policy matters.

Also, calling ACA a signature domestic achievement is not doing the president any favors. Its been called a train wreck by some Democrats and is quite obviously not very popular with the public. It's not ready to be put into play...not yet, maybe never. It's been amended and delayed 19 times now and it's not even active. Unfortunately, given the timeline and the standard no compromising politics from both of our times from both parties Americans are being asked to pick between the lesser of two evils....govt shutdown or Obamacare.

I know 2 things for sure that I'd bet my mother-in-law life on

One, the government will no doubt shut down.
Two, ACA open enrollment WILL start on the 1st.
Period!

There is absolutely NO WAY ACA will be delayed, dismantled, repealed.
It could and may be tweaked over the next few years, but the core of ACA is here to stay.

As for Ted Cruz? He talks like ACA was just proposed. Not yet law. Open for debate.
Ted...
ACA is a passed law. It was debated up thru the US Supreme Court. Case closed.

Elected Republicans(atleast one) likening Obamacare to 9/11 was just sickening. Fucking twats.

Republicans, playing chicken with our economy since 2010. This time will be different, the GOP will reap what it sows with this shut down. Wall Street is none to pleased with the GOP at this point.

I think it's sometimes better to look at government not as defined officially by the Constitution but by politics. The two "branches" are R and D. In practice it's more "consolidation of power" than separation. In this context the one half of government has an extra man advantage on the field. Since government now and for a very long time exists for the benefit of parties none of this is surprising.

It's like watching two predators fighting over territory, which is what this is all about.
