There's a simple fact at work here. A clean CR to keep the government running passed the Senate. A clean CR would pass the House if brought to a vote. One party is preventing that vote. This whole "both sides" drivel is just displaying ignorance or willful denial.

Yes and it's gotten to the point where one party literally does nothing. They don't do their job and are trying to redefine their job as simply being against the other guy.

Less government is a good thing. As the days pass, and everyone realizes that the sun still rises and sets without federal govt intervention, the more obvious it will be of how bloated and self serving it has become. The only people that will be truly affected are the non essential employees who have lived off the government tit.

Instead of "less government" (which I do agree with) how about we focus on "better government"?

Our government is there to serve us. This means providing good education, health care, roads, power, security, etc. It does not mean wasting money and not providing any services.

It's going to be a great opportunity for your kids to have that lemonade stand they'd been wishing for. Just be sure to have it wrapped up when the shut down ends.

Shit!
And I want to re negotiate the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 passed by the Lincoln administration also.
And lets not stop there.
George Washington administration passed a little thing called the US Constitution.
How about re negotiating that resolution passed on September 13, 1788?
And WWII? Lets send apologies to Adolf Hitler for entering the war.
Maybe dig him up and put him back in charge?
And the Japanese? We did drop that big A-bomb on them. Twice.

I mean, if you want to negotiate passed law, think BIG.

PS. You might want to also nip the regurgitated Ted Cruz talking points
I hear he's not even a legal American citizen.
I haven't seen his papers, have you?

There was only one party demanding the blank check, I mean clean CR.

As usual, there is no shutdown coming.

I can't believe people still fall for this. Do you not pay any attention to history? Like really none whatsoever?

Doh! I was wrong. It is now shut down.

---

That said, when 3/4 workers are considered essential and thus immune to a shut down, it's kind of more like a "shut down"

I don't expect this to last for long, but failing a prediction as I did earlier and making a new one seems not to have much credibility to it.

So once a law is passed it can never be changed in any way?

Sure if you HAVE the votes to do it legitimately.

Holding the budget/country/economy hostage and playing chicken/suicide because YOU DO NOT HAVE THE VOTES to make the changes is beyond idiotic.

This will not end well for the GOP.

It rarely does; that party is so politically tone-deaf it boggles the mind, and I say this as someone who leans right-ish and is no fan of the Dems. The GOP just seems to be digging itself a bigger and bigger hole. Luckily, though, the Dems get blinded by their own arrogance and usually manage to screw up enough to make the GOP look good again in a few years, because it's not like most GOPers have enough charisma to get elected on their own. What a mess.

Yeah, because the entire country collapsed in 1995-1996 and it spiraled into Mad Max like dystopian anarchy with serial murder raper bikers dominating every freeway and cops being afraid to go anywhere. <snip>

What you want and what you get are two different things.

Let the chaos begin.

Maybe the world will see us for what we are, and that is a bunch of greedy bastards. Then, maybe just maybe, the dollar will lose creditability on the world market.

There are 800k-1million furloughed. The other 1.3million fed employees(unless you are POTUS, VPOTUS, or Congress), the military, and the post office dont get a paychecks until the shut down is lifted.

Furthermore, the people hit the hardest will be the private sector. If the shut down last more than two weeks, govt contractors will no longer be working and layoffs will occur.

People are idiotic when they say it isn't a shut down/slowdown. Sure if it is a day it doesn't matter.

If this last 2-3 weeks or more, its economic suicide. Furthermore, this is just the budget. Oct 15 is the day where the GOP/Tea Party can really fuck over the country with even more political grandstanding with the debt ceiling. I see us losing another A on our bond rating before the month is out.

Was it holding the budget/country/economy hostage and playing chicken/suicide the last 18 times the government has shut down since 1976. Did I mention 18 times since 1976?

Would it help to think of it as a practice drill for when the big one hits?

What the republicans are doing this go around is historic its tieing the shut down to a single specific piece of law which they do not have the votes to get repealed.. You are an idiot to try and compare 1-2 day shut downs over nothing to this.

The Tea Party are bunch of obstructionists. If only the sane members of the GOP who were trying to rebel against the tea party nutters could have gotten 17 more votes yesterday. The majority of the GOP and all of the Tea Party are out of touch with reality.

And this is where it gets sticky. I would like less, including less of the two bolded above, except as governed by local jurisdictions.

And this is what it's come down to. Our federal government is so involved in the day-to-day operations of this country and of people's lives, that a 17 day shutdown could cause an economic catastrophe. That is sickening.

Its the uncertainty/instability that effects the overall economy that can lead to a catastrophe.

This is just a preview of Oct 15 when the GOP will drive the train over the cliff and get our bond rating reduced again.

When your party has an elected Congressmen saying "Lets roll like 9/11" inregards to Obamacare/Shutdown your party has a problem. Most of the Tea party members are completely irrational and blinded by kool-aid drinking hyper partisanship grandstanding that gets ABSOLUTELY NOTHING DONE.
