Ok, so I'm 27. For the things I like to do in life that's ancient. I know it's young biologically. But I'm not happy. I'm starting to look creepy going to college nights at clubs. I'm one of my last friends drinking pints of gin every friday & saturday. But I like it. I just have no friends to do it with because they're all married. I'm so lonely. But I don't know what to do with the rest of my life. THere's nothing left for me. I know I know...do shit you like and meet people that way...but the thing is...no one my age does the shit I do. THey all have careers and are driven and attract like minded people.

I was always afraid of ending up like those 28 or 29 year old people with no job or career and sitting around drinking and still 'partying' and being 5 years older than everyone at the parties they go to. Guess what I am now? I had so much potential. I was taking junior level college courses by the time I was 17, and now 10 years later I've actually become what i never wanted to be. Now apparently my student loans are going to come due soon and I have no money. I'm not sure I see many ways out of this. I don't have a way to earn enough money to cover loans and basic living expenses. I was doing well with stocks and then the market crashed and I lost 95% of my money. I started with a few hundred bucks and worked my waaaaay up. I was thinking about buying my mom a car, and even a house down the road. Now it's all gone, I have no career, no way to get one, no way to afford any grad school I'd have to pay for, no woman, no friends left really. Anyway, gin was on sale again so i bought a couple liters for 12 bucks and I'm drinkin it tonight so I thought I'd post here because I have no one else to talk to.

craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawling in myyyyyyyyyyyy skin, etc.

You have definitely become "that guy", the one you didn't want to be.

Why don't you have a way to earn money? Didn't you get a degree? Why no job? What's the rest of the story?

Are you drunk right now? If so you have remarkable grammar/spelling for a drunk guy. Marketable skill I guess.

I'm looking for people like you. I'm building an army and I need people who are looking for direction and guidance in their lives. If you have a love of bloodshed please contact me.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot recently due to similar situations in my own family. I think the problem with our society is that people define the path to success in one particular way:
1. Get a degree
2. Get married
3. Get a career

The order of 2 and 3 are interchangeable, but #1 is first and foremost. The problem with this plan is that nly 30% of the adult population in the US has a bachelor's degree. If we beat it into everyone that you have to get a very overpriced education to be fulfilled, then you're condemning 70% of the population to a life of misery. I think people need to step away from this archetype and assess what they value. If you find what you really value, pursue it and it will make you happy.

And no, I'm not hating on education. I'm getting married in three months, recently finished a PhD, $85k in student loan debt, and have literally spent my entire life in school (just turned 28). Finishing school and finding out that things are no better now than they were when I started has pretty much made me depressed for the past month or so. I've gotten away from the reason I went to grad school in the first place, and it has really damaged my outlook on life. Thus, I can say with certainty: education, apparent success (as defined above), and all of these things will not make you happy. I have family, friends, and many acquaintances who torture themselves because they are not living up to someone else's expectations. It's not about living up to someone else's expectations but setting and meeting your own that's important.

Moreover, you need to continually set new goals for yourself to keep yourself moving or you'll become bogged down with your life, no matter how much you are living someone else's dream. I'm trying to start a soccer team up so I can play again. I'm trying to get into volunteer activities. I've learned that even if I have what I thought would be my "dream job," it cannot make me happy. I need other things for fulfillment. Life is like finance - diversify your activities to make sure you don't lose everything in one downturn (like getting fired if you put all of your stock in your career).

Sorry for rambling, just wanted to let you know that you're not alone and that the things you were talking about in the OP won't necessarily make you happy or solve your problems.

Do you like the desert? Are you good at taking orders? Are you a fan of things that go *BOOM*?

If so, I think I've got a solution...

Sounds like you need to kick yourself in the ass. There's no room in life for self pitty. You make your own fate. Just start right now taking the steps to change your life.

Funny thing happened to me when I was about 22 or 23. I was smoking cigs, drinking like a fish, blowing money on partying every weekend, etc.

I was struggling with trying to give up the cigs and cut back on the drinking and was discussing this with a friend of mine. As cheesy as it sounds he said "only you can make yourself change" I don't know what it was about the way that he said it but man did that play over and over and over in my head. I quit cold turkey smoking, drinking (well gave up drinking totally for about a year and now only have a beer once every few weeks with a meal) and set my life on a better path.

Here it is 5 years later, I'm happily married, own a home and have a job that pays well and that I really enjoy.

Moral of the story, you only have to answer to yourself in the end.

Stop wasting your time in college and get a career. Decide on what interests you and pursue it. I don't know where you're getting your money for college since it sounds like you've been there for quite a while, but use that money to start a business or something.

Oh the trolling.
Shut up. We hate you.
Get out of my state.
Why am I talking to the flame retardant?
I suggest all three of you find some traffic to play in.

I'm only 21 now but I've moved about 12 times in the past 3 years so I'm faced with a similar situation a lot.. 'What the hell do I do now?' So I bought a ticket to New Zealand yesterday and am eating potatoes because buying that ticket made me broke. In a few weeks I'll be sleeping on a couch in a kitchen waiting for the day my flight leaves. With that said I think maybe you have the wrong friends, they have certain (possibly similar) expectations of themselves that are projecting onto you and making you feel unworthy. Get yourself in a situation with some people that also like to drink on the weekends and aren't interested in living with a woman right now and having more of your kind of attitude. That or start being like them. I think the worst thing, from my experience in those 12 living situations, is living around people that have different attitudes than you but similar attitudes with one another so you are constantly feeling different and eventually, wrong.

Actually it isn't. I have realized that in the history of the earth, there has not been a war started 'in the name of the Devil'. I intend on starting that war, and I need people like to OP to be my foot soldiers. Together we will create a hell on earth that will last for a thousand years. This is my dream.
