Gonna be the weird one here and go..

2000 Honda Civic - Mobil 1 5w30... Usually get the NAPA Gold oil filters. (Can get 2 for <$9 ) (They're WIX from what I recall) Engine: D16Y8. I change it every 3,000 miles or so. Pretty aggressive with maintenance changes considering my car gets railed on a lot. (Lots of short and very aggressive trips in the cold while in the city...)

whichever cheapest. guess what, car still going strong after 6 years. my 64 chevelle 400 sb lasted 15 years on cheap 10w30 and didnt burn a drop of oil the day i sold it after 210k miles on it. People put way, way too much preference into oil. even the most generic oil, your engine, providing its a decent designed one, will outlast most every other part in your car, not to mention most people don't keep their cars beyond 10 years.

When i went to NW mechanic school, had a professor do various tests on different engines with different oil and even one with drained oil so we could study the results. Amazing how long an engine can run with no oil.

you guys can think whatever pleases you, but imo, its pretty stupid to spend much on fancy oil. Your goin to replace and go through far more other parts on a car than you will your engine, and likely tranny for that matter too. Why waste more money on oil for a car most of you will probably trade in or sell in 5 or so years anyway? makes no sense to me. after so many miles, everything else on car is about junk anyway. be it weather stripping to tie rods, then they get rid of it or fix it, yet all that time the oil didn't mean squat.

I've been meaning to get one done. I just haven't gotten around to it. I feel like I will have flushed the engine of the extra-additives by this next oil change. (Which will be quite a while off actually...) I've changed the oil at least 4 times since the last time I used an oil with additives.

Both WRXs get Mobile1 5W-30 with an OEM filter every 5k. The CR-Z gets Mobile1 0W-30 and an OEM filter when the ECU decides its time, about every 8-9k.

Pennzoil Platinum is my primary choice. When on sale, I'll use Mobil 1 HM or EP; fantastic oils, those.

Amsoil 5w30 XL in my 01 Lexus ES300 or if I buy a cheap jug of synthetic somewhere Ill use that.

Amsoil 20w50 in my Night Rod.

I get PC memberships for free, and the oil isn't all that expensive at wholesale pricing. Anyone in the GTA interested in Amsoil give me a shout, I will hook you up.

Mobil 1 is extremely popular... Can't for the life of me figure out why. It isn't particularly good synthetic oil, especially for the price. Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra are quite a bit better, and the same price or cheaper. M1 tends to show higher iron levels in UOAs, compared to PP, PU, and even Valvoline Synpower.

That 'Yota making chocolate icing yet? My bet is on the Nissan!

I was being sarcastic, but no. 170k miles and under the valve cover is shiny silver and gold. You can still see the sand casting texture all throughout, its pristine. I've only ever used whatever dino oil is on sell for that car.

It comes from the days only a few years ago that there were few oils from synthetic stock. Mobil 1 was one of them. They also used the highest quality stock base. Valvoline was another. They sued the heck out of Pennzoil because they made the claim that gold=clean...when it didn't.
At that time, Pennzoil used synthetically enhanced conventional base stocks.
It goes to show you that years of a bad reputation takes years of undoing by the masses.

Don't know about cars but for motorcycles Mobil 1 synthetic is really good. The topic has been beat down to death on the V-Rod forums. Don't know how Mobil 1 synthetic oils are for cars but I imagine they must be pretty good.

And I know that Mobil 1 is one of the original true synthetics unlike others.

Purolator PureOne filters. I buy them in multiples... You can find them for $2 each every now and then, so then I buy like 6. Good filters.

Oil? Whatever's cheap without rebates. Most rebate deals include some shitty filter, plus then you gotta deal with a stupid rebate. Usually, I end up getting Castrol GTX on sale. I've used the Walmart Supertech brand without any problems, too. I change my oil every 3k miles. Slightly off topic, but I rotate the tires on my Miata every month and once every oil change on the Accord.
