What options do I have regarding having a phone line installed on a new construction?

BUT...

I don't want a new server install...

I basically want to have the line that was buried to the back of my house terminated at the little grey box on at the side of my house (so it is technically installed but not an active service).

I have called two phone companies in the area and they won't do it unless I sign up for new service which I don't want to...just use cell phones at the moment...

Options?

I think your options are:
1. Sign up for service to get the line installed free.
2. Pay them to install/terminate the line, which would probably cost what 5 years of phone service would cost.
3. Do nothing and wait until you want service to request installation.

Run a 2-inch piece of PVC pipe all the way from the road, to your house. Run string through it from end to end, and tie the ends off.

When, at some point in the future, you want service, they can pull the wire right through the pipe without having to dig up your lawn or anything.

They will not do that - claim liability issues for how deep the line is and is it PVC all the way?

For resale purposes, I would have the line installed whether you plan on using it or not.

This is what I am trying to do...I don't plan to get it installed as a service to 'use' I just wanted to get it buttoned up so when I DID want to get service it won't be an ordeal...

I guess I will have to look around at the local carriers and see how much they charge or if they require a 'service contract'...if they don't my best option might be to have the service for a month and just pay a nominal fee for a base line...and then disconnect it...

I can see it from the providers side...not a normal request but still I can't believe that it cannot be accommodated for a small fee.

This was done by the developer of my place(one conduit for cable and one conduit for phone)except the asshat didn't run a string thru them. I needed Verizon and Comcast to blow strings thru the pvc conduit to wire my house. A 200 ft run too.

I might not have made it clear...the services are already buried to the back of the house...cable, power, phone...

SO...since I didn't have a phone service installed I never got the wire terminated into the house...now we finally got around to getting a patio installed and I need to button up the rest of the crap around it because the patio had to be installed over the buried wire.

More of a house keeping operation here but I am slowly realizing that I need to get a service installed in order to get it like I planned!

Easiest way would be to stop at a telco van when you see one and explain that you need a NIU box for voice service. The tech will likely be able to supply it for you and may even install it (quietly) for you. Or see if the local telco will just sell you the box. It should be available at electrical supply houses or places that cater to the telephone industry.
