What paint do you people recommend for cases?

I was thinking Rustoleum Metallics. Silver and green color. Do you apply a clear coat as well after the colored ones? Also what to use on faceplates? Same paint for plastic used on the metal case?

I have never painted a case but I would think appliance paint would do a good job. You can get it at most hardware stores

I used the metallic cobalt blue rustoleum on my case and a clear coat on top. It really kicked ass, same stuff on the plastic/face plates. One note tho, my case was already painted (as 99% of them are) i didnt prime or sand it down and as such the paint i applied to the metal has a tendency to chip rather easily, but i abuse the case anyhow so maybe its just me. Only chipping i had was around the corners/ top plate. The plastic is really resilient to that torture it seems.

i would imagine that as long as you clean the metal part of your case with some acetone (nail polish remover) and rough up the plastic parts with a really fine sand paper (400 or so) and use some primer on the plastic, you should be fine. DeviantX is having problem with chipping though, so maybe using a primer on the metal part would be a good idea.

What if your case just needs a little "touch up?" Any suggestions on where to find some of that basic "computer beige" we all know and love?

Heres what I did to my case, I used a paint remover called Jasco paint and epoxy remover your local paint store will carry this. Be sure to were gloves and eye protection this is some nasty stuff and only use this on the metal parts it will melt the plastic. You just brush it on its a thick gell the factory paint on your case will lift off in about 5 minutes.. Then use auto primer and spray on with a HVLP high valume low pressure sprayer.... Then I sprayed five coats of acrylic urathaine then 3 coats of Clear...did the same to the front cover...now this case is very hard to scratch all i do is wax this badboy about once every two months and it keeps that new car loke.. BTW I am a painting contractor so most of you dont have a HVLP but if you do thats how I would paint your case.........

I painted my regular case gold. What I did was prime it with metal primer (even on the plastic parts). Then I sprayed two THIN gold coats over that. After that I gave it a bunch of clear coats for protection. I've seen some chipping on it, but it's because I move around a lot. Don't expect it to be just like the normal case paint (robust) unless you put a lot of work into it.

I used Rustoleum Metallics on my 2 cases, looks great.

1. Sand the case well
2. After about 3 coats of metallic apply 1 coat of clear coat
3. The Metallic line works fine on plastics as well
