<-- Wonders why Mormon's are being targeted for prop8 if only 2% of California is Mormon. It's not as if the church forced 51% of the other people in the state to vote that way, let alone the Mormons themselves.

<-- Thinks this thread will result in a huge flame war. I'm out.

Simple answer, Mormans are much easier and more PC to attack than blacks who voted 71% for Prop 8.

Blacks didn't donate huge sums of money to destroy other people's lives; unlike the insane, carpetbagging cult members from Utah.

Are you mad because Prop 8 had money, or are you just mad because you have a small brain?

Devout Anti-Mormon here...

IMO, there's no church group in the USA that has a more hate-filled history than the Moroni-worshipers.

Just look at their historical treatment of blacks...their support of more hate-filled agenda doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

The LDS church has had issues with race in the past, as has the entire US. But, those issues were resolved in the 70's.

Irrational hatred is irrational.

Ever so coincidentally, Kimball (or who ever was President at the time) "Had a Dream" that overturned those rules against Blacks...I say coincidentally because it was about the same time the NAACP sued over this bit:
"In 1974 the NAACP sued the LDS Church because it didn't allow black boy scouts in LDS Church-sponsored scouting troops to become patrol-leaders. They had always been allowed into Mormon scouting troops, but they couldn't become patrol-leaders." (actually, any non-Mormon was so discriminated against)

"Shortly before Boy Scout officials were to appear in Federal Court Friday morning on charges of discrimination, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a policy change which will allow black youths to be senior patrol leaders, a position formerly reserved for white LDS youths in troops sponsored by the church. An LDS Church spokesman said Friday under the "guidelines set forth in the statement, a young man other than president of the deacons quorum could (now) become the senior patrol leader if he is better qualified". - (Salt Lake Tribune, August 3, 1974).

Mormon President Spencer W. Kimball "had been subpoenaed to testify" in the suit (Ibid., Oct. 23), but on Nov. 7, 1974 the Tribune reported: "A suit claiming discrimination against blacks by the Boy Scouts of America was dismissed Wednesday in federal court...all parties to the suit..signed an agreement stating the alleged discrimination 'has been discontinued.'"

We lived in northern Utah in the early 80's and the Mormon's discrimination against "gentiles" was still very strong then.
I'd go apply for a job, things were good untill the fatal question," By the way, what Stake do you belong to?"
I'd tell them I didn't belong to the LDS church at all, and the conversation seemed to always go from, "Great, can you start on Monday?," to "Well, I'll keep your application on file. If anything should come up..."
I called the manager of one company on that. I asked him why I went from "Start Monday," to "If something comes up?"
He told me that as wrong as it may be, the company had a policy of taking care of "THEIR OWN" first...
How I wished I had a tape recorder that day...I might have owned a significant portion of that concrete company...

As anti-Mormon as I am, I will however admit freely that some of the best people I've ever met were "devout Mormons" who actually lived what they believed. NO hypocracy, NO "Jack Mormons," just good people who happened to be Mormon and lived according to their scriptures.
Most of the Mormons we knew personally were just "Jacks" and were "normal people" without the horns...

<- Mormon.

If I where to guess, I would say it probably about the same as the amount of mormons in the US, perhaps slightly higher (as getting as much education as possible is one thing stressed by mormon leaders, more so then I have heard from different religions).

IMO, there's no church group in the USA that has a more hate-filled history than the Moroni-worshipers.
You seem to forget Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, and just about every other religion on record.

By historical treatment of blacks, are you referring to their abolitionist stand or the fact that that, SURPRISE, most people held about the same stand as everyone else at the time. But don't let that stop your hatred and prejudice against them. Ironic, you hold a prejudice against a group of people for holding a prejudice against another group.

But Saltboy said, I'm out, this is only going to lead to fights, name calling, and flaming in general.

And?

As I said, it was resolved. I didn't say they were never racially biased, only that it has been corrected.

Lots of organizations have had racist policies in the past. So long as they are no longer in place you can't really hold it against them. Or do you also hate the federal government for condoning slavery?

I was in the church for 16 years, I never encountered overt racism of any kind. The past is the past, get over it.
