I worked for a mormon once...at x-mas, the owner's daughters were putting up traditional x-mas decorations; x-mas tree, santa clause stuff, etc. I told them I was surprised because I didn't think they taught their kids about Santa...She was kind of offended that I didn't think of them as Christians...I told her that I thought their church and religion was kind of wierd and really didn't know WHAT they believed, but that it was named right...LSD because you had to be HIGH to believe some of the stuff I had heard about...
Much to my great surprise, they laughed with me as well as AT me for my ignorance... MOST of the family were good people. Warm, friendly, decent people, but the owner of the company was perhaps the most crooked son-of-a-bitch I ever worked for in my 30+ years of construction...

Three reasons.
1. The LDS church makes for an easy target because it's fairly big
2. Mormons were a big force in getting the prop on the ballot and donated a lot of money towards getting it passed, from what I understand.
3. Many people, myself included, don't think what is a religious ideology issue should be law, let alone a state constitutional amendment. It also seems to violate the 14th amendment of the US constitution.

Mormons spent $20 MILLION to promote Prop 8 in CA. Understand that for the most part, I'm not talking about individuals making donations here. I'm talking about the organization itself pushing legislature in another state. This from the people who originally told us it was ok to have multiple wives. They want to lecture us on the traditional definition of marriage? Spare me.
I seem to recall that lobbying firms don't enjoy non-profit status. Time to start taxing the LDS, obviously.
I have no problem blaming minorities for Prop 8, either. It boggles my mind that as a group they would be so hypocritical as to deny the same rights for which they once had to fight. As far as I'm concerned, that's the end of my empathy for their struggle for equality.
