Got me to wondering if we can really keep the ball rolling & seriously reduce the # of cars on the road to half or less by 2020..........or maybe even earlier???

Fortunately this effort seems to be growingly global, so hopefully the pursuit will be relentless!

Curious to what others envision in the near future.

Hmmm.....just realized this may fit better in "the garage" forum, so mods, move there if better. (or whatever)

Garage'd.

It is just wonderful when people think all it is going to take is writing a bigger number on a piece of paper to make it so.

The number of cars available in the US that get more than 40 mpg was cut in half in the past few years. Meanwhile outside of the US there are over 100 cars available that get more than 40 mpg. Low CAFE requirements have been holding back consumer options and restraining the availability of high MPG cars. The faster they increase CAFE the better.

I dont know if the US will ever get over the 'dirty diesel' thoughts of the 70s/80s, or will see diesel prices in line with gasoline which will make the higher MPG cars worth the extra cost at the pump. That and the urea injection is going to cause problems because most americans do not do regular maintenance on their cars and that is one more thing for them to do, and they will most likely shy away from it.
I'd love to drive a jetta tdi.

Yea because mandating cars to have higher MPG is giving us options
