What pet should I get? I think parrots are cool, you know, teaching them to talk and all, but I don't know of any problems they have. I like dogs too, but they need a lot of space to play and I live in an apartment. Let me know what you guys and gals think (any unique ideas welcome).

Er, neither of those. Birds are cool, for about 15 minutes. Then they are the most god awful annoying creatures on the planet. And your neighbors would h-a-t-e you within a week, as those parrot shrieks travel through anything.

Dogs and apartments don't really mix unless you really, REALLY take the time out of your day to spend with the dog.

Have you considered saltwater fish? In all seriousness, a mini reef tank is way cool, chicks will dig it (get a clownfish, name it nemo = girls will love you) and is actually pretty interactive. However, it is really a lot of work as well and can get pretty costly.

We've had cockatiels before. They can be noisy but it's just natural for them. Get one while it's real young and spend a lot of time with it... you can teach her to talk and sing, and they'll follow you or sit on your shoulder.

How about a cat? Perfect for apartments and plenty of fun (at least as kittens) Find a local animal shelter and check them out.

Parrots are noisy as h*ll, your neighbors might not be real keen on the concept. Dogs need space. Cats are quiet and if raised properly can be very affectionate. Hamsters are cute but you can't forget they're there. We used to let ours run around the apartment once in awhile (one at a time) as long as we felt we could trust them not to chew up the furniture. We had a hamster we used to leave the door to her cage open and she'd come and go as she pleased. But you need to get a feel for their behavior before you trust them that far. Tropical fish are boring, but would be good for soothing jangled nerves... -kd5-

I am partial to cats. Or fish. Fish are good pets for an apartment.

Parrots are cool, but they live a long, long time, so it's a big commitment.
