What recent piece of hardware that you have dealt with has just been a PAIN IN THE ASS from the get go (or maybe got better over time with drivers, BIOS updates, etc.)?
Asus A7V133 - more specifically the onboard Promise controller. Took me a hell of a long time to get Win2K installed on this machine . " Inaccessible boot device " Saw that blue screen more times in a month than I care to remember.
ecs k7s5a motherboards
tried two from different batches purchased months apart.
couldnt get either one stable and i tried everything and for quite a while.
guess i got two bad ones as other people seem to be able to get them stable.

ECS K7S5A (blue screens, reboots, IRQ problems, etc.)
ABIT KT7A-RAID + SB Live! (dreadful together, fine when apart )
Intellimouse Explorer (went through THREE of them in a year and half, POS:|)
The Abit KA7. Yes, a slot A. There was a moderate teething period as Abit perfected the BIOS, and at first not all ram worked with this board (ahh the good old days). Then last spring I started getting mysterious system hangs and startup problems. Seems Abit got a batch of bad capacitors, after a year they wouldn't hold a charge correctly, then they started ozzing black goop. But Abit is a stand up company, they replaced the board for free with no hassles. With the new KA7 board I almost have enough spare parts for a second computer.
I choose my components pretty carefully. The only component I had major grief with was an MSI BX-Master. Remarkable that they managed to screw up a BX chipset mobo.
Oh yeah, I forgot about my Acer 320U scanner. Mofo died TWICE. Cost me $18 the first time to ship it in for warranty repair (it only cost me $35). The second time it died I threw it in the trash can.
The capacitors were steadily leaking more and more, and it wouldn't boot without hitting reset after booting. Then it wouldn't boot unless I unplugged it from the PSU for 12 hours straight. Then it wouldn't boot at all. At every step, it would make the CPU Temp warning. Then it died.
A stupid Mitsumi 4X cd-rom that kept reading wrong and made many errors. This is in the time of my old and way too cool P1-75 ! woohoo ! I had 8 mb on that and win95........ hehe
of course I then upgraded gradually to a P1-166, 64 mb (that was F** expensive) and voodoo 1 !
A sony 12x dvd player. It'd skip, it had awful seek times, then it plain stopped working, just after Sony stopped supporting it.
I also (you'll laugh at this one) had trouble with my Abit--i think it was a bh6. 440bx anyway. As soon as my dsl stuff was installed, it'd hang in IE every thirty minutes. I'll blame it on ameritech. What was I thinking? Then I jumped ship (couple months ago; other mb is still a concern in another computer) to an Iwill kt133a. No problems since
UMM.........
UMM........
Give me a minute, I'll come up with something!
UMM.......
SBLive Value, that's it!
Finding what other PCI card would share IRQ's with it, took me all of an hour!
