What Processor upgrade to help CPU gaming bottlenecks

Getting good FPS in Sins during end game is impossible. Not even a 5.2 GHz i7 8700k will provide proper frames. Same can be said for all old RTS games.

The games that are single threaded bound love low latency DDR4, but that is pricey.

Ryzen is a great fit because AM4 will have several releases where Intel won't. I love having a motherboard able to support several generations of CPU's, but not everyone finds it too important.

If you are set on the fastest single threaded performance, the i7-8700k is the way to go. You will absolutely want to splurge on some great RAM imo as these old games benefit greatly on either platform.

Yeah, we need proper sequel to Sins:Rebellion like a salt. I would pay good money for it, its my fav game ever, even beating mighty Homeworld to take that crown.
Anyway. StarDock is unfortunately not interested to produce it currently and prefers to pour money into borefest called Ashes of Singularity or into pointless lawsuits concerning Star Control.... oh well.

Another vote for the i7 3770 route. It will give 4 extra threads, slight increase in IPC and those two combined, will allow for a better gaming experience.
You can offset some of the 3770 cost by selling your 2500. In the end that will extend your rig's life.
Spend your extra cash on a better GPU instead. Ebay has several used GPUs that are much faster than what u have if u don't want to pay Miners edition prices.
