C#, C++, Java, VB.... which one?

I'm interested in seeing which one of these four is most popular

If you're real favorite isn't here, please choose the one you like best out of the four listed

C, haven't taken time to learn it. C++ - I'm sure I'll mess with it someday but I have no real plans to do so. C# - I don't use MS stuff, same for VB, Java - will likely learn it eventually, but again I don't plan on making a big effort to do so soon. The java platform seems like a god awful mess to me, that's why I have no desire to use it.

Python is great

C++ or Java... I'll only use C if I need to manage the memory or port the code to something else....

I prefer python...but you didn't list it...so I'll go with C/C++ Because I don't like VB, and Java apps usually run slower than a C/C++ program designed for the same thing (I'd go with java if I needed somthing cross platform though). And C# is just evil.

Depends on the task!!

For some small, one system only thing I would prefer python, perl or a shell script!!
For big apps C/C++, but the initial idea could be coded in python!

I don't know Java, but I may learn it someday... won't use C# for political reasons and VB would be my very last choice for anything(except some stupid, small, gui oriented app in win32 where I couldn't use something else!!!), ASP/VBScript should deserve a mention here also.

Where is Python

I'm not voting until I see Python as an option.

EDIT: Nevermind, I voted C++

You think ASP/VBScript deserve a mention and you think VB is the LAST CHOICE?

I also feel that it's sad that politics get in the way of a language choice

I chose C#, but I always choose a language that best fits my requirements. I prefer C++ over Java, but there are a lot of scenarios where Java is the superior choice. I also enjoy Perl, but I wouldn't write most of my work in Perl (although I use it a lot for data conversions)....

Yeah, how come no Delphi?

Seriously though if that was a choice I would vote for it. Instead I voted C++.

Depends on what the project is. If not too complicated, C/C++. If windows-based and not platform independent, VB probably.

But most likely Java. That's what I deal with the most at work anyway.

I would put them this order:

Delphi->C++/C->Java->C#->(huge gap here)->VB

Perl has some interesting features but I gotta say the syntax is made by a sadist, and the stuff its good for awk generally does much faster.
