I use Java, PHP, and Oracle PL/SQL most of the time. I can work my way around in the VS.NET suite, but I'm not proficient.

if you know C++ , Java will be a walk in the park to learn. I know QBasic (my first language), Pascal, Visual Basic, Java, C/C++,Assembly and I am learning LotusScript at work ( it's rather easy )

Just finished a C class. Programming is not my thing but it started to make sense towards the end of the class.

I moslty use C/C++ (Win32 & MFC) plus a small amout of Perl, PHP, and HTML. I've learned a little Flash since we created an application to dynamically build Flash objects with embedded user data.

In the past I've also used ASP, VB, MS Basic PDS (a souped up QuickBasic), x86 assembly for work, and Pascal, Prolog, Lisp, Fortran, 8080 assembly in college. Before college I used Tandy, Atari and Commodore BASIC and 6502 assembly for some game programming.

I'm planning to finally learn the .NET platform (ASP, C#, managed C++) once Visual Studio 2005 is out of beta.

I can write Java, C/C++, and I can read many other languages and understand them (PHP, ASP, QBASIC, Perl to name a few)

Java, VB.NET, Python, some SQL so far.

Don't use them all at once though, it's been awhile since I used Python.

Not that big of a deal to pickup a new one.

I don't see anything implausible in people's posts.

Most people with a CS degree learned / used several languages in the process, and a fair amount of real-world development (especially server-side) uses several languages at once.

And geezers like me have just lived through changes in platform. In my first job we initially used Microsoft's Basic PDS, then moved to VC++ for DOS, then VC++ / MFC for Win32. In my current job we still use VC++ / MFC, but I can see us (or me in a new job) switching to .NET eventually.

PS once you've learned a language or two you understand the concepts, so learning most other languages (except wacky ones like Prolog) is easy. So knowing 6 languages doesn't make you three times as good as a person who knows 2.

In order of decreasing competency
C/C++, Python, Perl, Fortran

Some HTML & SQL, but I'm not surte I really consider those to be programming languages by themselves. Did some PHP at one point.
