Hi All,

I'm thinking about getting a new PSU because my current one is apparently dying (http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2083925)

My current system consists of :
E8400
ASUS P5Q Pro
2 SATA HDD's
4 GB Ram
3 case fans
2 DVD Burners

I was debating between these two power supplies:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139003

Which of the two is better? And as I am not an expert on power supplies, does the problem I'm having with my pc not booting appear to be a Power supply issue? Thank you!

Despite not having listed your gpu, I would opt for a single-rail psu. Here's a sorted 12v single-rail listing, based on highest rating at Newegg. The price criteria was based upon your two selections. Odds are, you'll need at least 35W on the 12v rail for the gpu. (I'm assuming you have a single-gpu setup.)

My only concern with that is the meter's are around $25 and a New PSU runs around $55-60, so it seems like a smarter investment to just get a new PSU.

I'm a bit biased as I have the Corsair 450VX and it's a solid unit -- it's very quiet too. I like the fact it has all Japanese capacitors and has a 5 year warranty. The Antec 550BP looks to be a nice unit as well, the warranty is shorter though.

Edit: The 550BP doesn't seem to have 80plus certification, but it still could be in 80% efficiency range. Anyways out of all four PSU's I'd still go with Corsair.

Out of all of the ones you've posted, I still would lean towards the Corsair, then the Antec Earthwatts.

Corsair's just a brand I trust....and while only in the power supply business for four years, they've yet to release a clunker onto the market, unlike other brands.

For around $60, would you say that the Corsair posted is my best bet? Or should I spend $10 more and get something like this:

Thanks!

Your dropping out of the efficiency range with 650w for your rig. To achieve at least 80% efficiency for a 650w would require your pulling at least ~160w idle from the wall. The efficiencies vary, but your rig probably isn't even close to that. A 450w will be plenty.

Out of the ones listed that corsair is the best quality, just buy it. You really cant go wrong with a corsair PSU.
