Looks like it was a little under $100 for sides. Still I regret it. They were all huge, and couldn't take extra with us as we were not going home. $80 is a bit high for not telling us. Everything else was exceptional, we had two servers too.
well the tip was way high, but sticking to the bill, the meat was quite expensive, I mean not even here it costs so much, while the other items are about on-par, except for the side dishes which are slightly pricier and the drink which is quite convenient compared to here, but in the US the tip has to be calculated on top of prices so it becomes quite expensive. But if it was a luxury restaurant I guess it's normal.

ITT: People that don't understand the concept of eating at a nice restaurant, and where the money actually goes
well it becomes poo. Everybody knows this.
Also washing down fine food juices with cheap flavoured sugar drinks doesn't look like getting the most value to me but w/e

I had to look this thing up... looks like a Nest smoke alarm -- which looks like a mini computer or Mac Mini.

I bought one and ended up returning it. It takes so much tinkering to get things to work with it and even then it's still buggy. I'm at the point in my life where I don't want to go home and tinker with software for another 4-5 hours to get things working. I don't mind having different apps for different products at home.

^I'm at the point in life where I don't want to deal with anything complicated anymore. That, apparently, includes buying anything new because I know I'll research all the features and spend weeks figuring out which is best for me.

Anova makes steaks super-tender, but reverse sear is awesome too. If you plan on doing chicken with it, I'd invest in one, and pork too, but just for steak, reverse sear is great. My BSCB goes into a lot of other dishes tho (salads, pizza, paninis, etc.) so it's pretty useful for me to get zero-effort, ultra-moist chicken breast from the Anova.

Yeah, I'd make other stuff, too. I'm torn between getting an anova or a smoker as my next big cooking tool/paradigm.

What's a bscb?

Like this (Christmas dinner)?

I never entertain for enough people to get one that large, but yeah, I get that level of sear on mine. I don't trim it like that, tho. Do you do that, or have our butcher do it?

BSCB = boneless, skinless chicken breast. Also EVOO = extra virgin olive oil.

Are you familiar with pellet smoking? I have a Traeger pellet smoker (Green Mountain Grills are the spiritual successors) & it is awesome. Runs off food-grade pellets (you'll need an outdoor electrical outlet or extension cord to run the auger & heating element), lets you set the temp (180F to 400F or so), basically an outdoor convection oven with smoke. Set & forget. I have a wireless meat probe that lets you set your internal target temp, so it's easy to do a 4 or 8-hour smoke (or longer). Great results every time, love it!

I do it. It's called frenching. It essentially removes the inedible fat parts. You can render the scraps into an awesome stock for au jus though

Man all this steak house talk makes me want to get an annova

Though, I make a really good prime rib roast with a reverse sear.

If you know how to reverse sear, don't get Anova for steak. I would get grill/smoker before Anova.

I just replaced the torsion springs in my garage door and the documentation said the door shouldn't stay in place. It should be able to be lifted rather easily but not stay up unless pushed up all the way. You want some "weight" to the door, it should not be neutral. Different rules for different doors maybe?

I'll have to look into it more, but that's what I read about testing it. Of course, that could have simply been wrong. Now, you can say that if you raise it up to the desired maximum height (when I got mine fixed, I was told that I was setting the door to go too high) and let it go, it should stay. So, we can at least say that should be accurate if not the middle.

Eh, I really like my Samsung Smarthings hub. It is great for home automation.

To be fair, they didn't create that... they just bought it.

I regret my xBox One purchase. I have hardly used it and get bored with games too fast. I got it for Forza 6 but didn't like the changes they made. Oh and the interface is just awful. I can never find what i'm looking for.

Use it as a media center for Netflix, Hulu, etc. I think they even have TV tuners for them. If you have DirectTV or Dish the XBox will integrate with the receiver.

I already have a Roku, which works much better IMO. I use the Xbox for an occasional BluRay, but that's about it.

Is bacon wrapped steak a thing?
Yes, it is a thing.

https://www.google.com/search?q=bac...ved=0ahUKEwjx-uzV_fTRAhUC4WMKHcU9C5UQ_AUIBigB

However, bacon wrapped steak is a bad thing. Not that bacon or steak is bad. But by the time the steak is done, the bacon is still a soggy, limp mass. You need to precook the bacon that makes wrapping around the steak difficult. Or you need a blowtorch to finish the bacon without overcooking the steak, which few people actually do.

I can think of two big ones:

The Roomba that I bought from Woot. It constantly ran over cat toys, got stuck, and stopped running. Even when it wasn't self destructing, it never cleaned worth a damn.

The other big one was a Windows CE PDA. The thing constantly crashed and lost all of my data. I gave up on it after having to do a factory reset to recover from a lockup for the fifth or sixth time.

34" 2560x1080 makes baby jesus cry.
my Dell 27" that I got 3yrs is 2560 x 1440.

34" 3440x1440 sounds amazing but honestly, dual 21" 1920 x 1080 would be easier for multiple windows.
(and cheaper)

I'm still hanging onto a Q6600 PC and don't want to pay over $500 to upgrade it and all the parts that have to go with it. Still does everything I want including the 1 GPU-intensive game I play. No way will I spend over $500 on just the monitor. I didn't realize the top of an ultrawide is shortened - imagine my surprise when I popped it out of the box. Call me a noob.
