“Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers. It tells people to go out and stick their noses in other people's business. I live by the golden rule: Treat others as you'd want them to treat you. The religious right wants to tell people how to live.”

Some of my favorites come from my father. He surely heard some but may have made some up, I do not know:

Money isn't everything but it is way ahead of whatever's in second place.

I don't think any more of a nickle than I do my right eye.

A fool and his money soon part company.

Take care of your pennies and your dollars will take care of themselves.

It's mind over matter, Moonbeam, and it you've no mind and it doesn't matter.

Do you think it's as cold here as it is in the summer time?

If a frog had no hind legs he's bump his butt off.

Something he would tell me his Uncle would ask him as a child:

Samson slew two thousand Philistines with the jaw bone of an ass. Do you believe that Johnny?

If wishes where horses beggars would ride.

The road to Perdition is paved with good intentions.
--------
A couple I like from various sources:

Most of all I regret nothing.

I am the Divinely Beloved who loves you more than you can possibly ever love yourself. Relax and be happy.

There are a million paths in life and they all lead nowhere. Choose a path that has a heart.

But in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Oh, my Beloved, wherever I look it appears to be Thou.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

Did ye but suffer you would not suffer.

Go in the direction of your fears.

"How the words "love", "harmony", and "beauty" delight the heart of everyone who hears them! One may wonder what it can be in these words that is able to exert such a natural power upon the human soul.

The answer is that if there is anything in life which appeals to the human soul, it is love and beauty. If one asks, "And what besides those?" then the answer is, "There is nothing else.""

I remember years and years ago seeing some Black preacher talking about how if you wanted to drive a Cadillac you had first to be able to picture yourself driving it. Do you think that kind of thinking is a sham? Do you think it nonsense that in order to achieve an aim you first have to realize it as a possibility? There is a wonderful story about the life of a man who has a caravan of riches on it's way to him and how it arrives.

On a side note, have you ever wondered about the value of self respect?

Lets break this down: Rant Incoming!
Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for the weak minded.

Absolutely I believe this, you can be religious, you can be spiritual and I have no issues with that.
Picking and choosing what beliefs you follow of your particular religion bothers me to no end. If you are gonna judge people, you best be living your religion 100% or else you are a sham.

I also fully understand those that are weak minded NEED religion or a set of beliefs to follow. Dave Ramsey falls into this group of people who are so weak with their finances they need Dave, they need a leader, they are the definition of weak! Sheep, fuckin sheep these people are but they need a leader, they are lost without one and thats where religion comes into play. It controls/guides people for the benefit of society.

As Jesse Ventura noted, just be a good person, do whats right, treat others with kindness, don't be a dick, let others live without your judgement.

So many people are losers, they fuck up their lives, they are useless, they have no drive. I wish people's religion could be Self Awareness, Ownership & Accountability but folks are too stupid to understand that, so with that, I'd rather everyone be in an organized religion following along, that would be best for society.

I've pretty much wrapped my life around this saying: Keep grinding. I live that wherever I can.

What you called a rant I would call a vision out the window of your Cadillac.

Here's a guy whose writings resonate with modern sensibilities, although he died in 1931. August Rodin once called him "the William Blake of the 20th century."

I read (and re-read!) The Prophet in the 1960's (still have my copy).

"Youth and Age" by Khalil Gibran

Khalil Gibran (https://poets.org/poet/khalil-gibran?mc_cid=8ea87ccaae&mc_eid=UNIQID)

In my youth the heart of dawn was in my heart, and the songs of April were in my ears.

But my soul was sad unto death, and I knew not why. Even unto this day I know not why I was sad.

But now, though I am with eventide, my heart is still veiling dawn,

And though I am with autumn, my ears still echo the songs of spring.

But my sadness has turned into awe, and I stand in the presence of life and life’s daily miracles.

The difference between my youth which was my spring, and these forty years, and they are my autumn, is the very difference that exists between flower and fruit.

A flower is forever swayed with the wind and knows not why and wherefore.

But the fruit overladen with them honey of summer, knows that it is one of life’s home-comings, as a poet when his song is sung knows sweet content,

Though life has been bitter upon his lips.

In my youth I longed for the unknown, and for the unknown I am still longing.

But in the days of my youth longing embraced necessity that knows naught of patience.

Today I long not less, but my longing is friendly with patience, and even waiting.

And I know that all this desire that moves within me is one of those laws that turns universes around one another in quiet ecstasy, in swift passion which your eyes deem stillness, and your mind a mystery.

And in my youth I loved beauty and abhorred ugliness, for beauty was to me a world separated from all other worlds.

But now that the gracious years have lifted the veil of picking-and-choosing from over my eyes, I know that all I have deemed ugly in what I see and hear, is but a blinder upon my eyes, and wool in my ears;

And that our senses, like our neighbors, hate what they do not understand.

And in my youth I loved the fragrance of flowers and their color.

Now I know that their thorns are their innocent protection, and if it were not for that innocence they would disappear forevermore.

And in my youth, of all seasons I hated winter, for I said in my aloneness, “Winter is a thief who robs the earth of her sun-woven garment, and suffers her to stand naked in the wind.”

But now I know that in winter there is re-birth and renewal, and that the wind tears the old raiment to cloak her with a new raiment woven by the spring.

And in my youth I would gaze upon the sun of the day and the stars of the night, saying in my secret, “How small am I, and how small a circle my dream makes.”

But today when I stand before the sun or the stars I cry, “The sun is close to me, and the stars are upon me;” for all the distances of my youth have turned into the nearness of age;

And the great aloneness which knows not what is far and what is near, nor what is small nor great, has turned into a vision that weighs not nor does it measure.

In my youth I was but the slave of the high tide and the ebb tide of the sea, and the prisoner of half moons and full moons.

Today I stand at this shore and I rise not nor do I go down.

Even my roots once every twenty-eight days would seek the heart of the earth.

And on the twenty-ninth day they would rise toward the throne of the sky.

And on that very day the rivers in my veins would stop for a moment, and then would run again to the sea.

Yes, in my youth I was a thing, sad and yielding, and all the seasons played with me and laughed in their hearts.

And life took a fancy to me and kissed my young lips, and slapped my cheeks.

Today I play with the seasons. And I steal a kiss from life’s lips ere she kisses my lips.

And I even hold her hands playfully that she may not strike my cheek.

In my youth I was sad indeed, and all things seemed dark and distant.

Today, all is radiant and near, and for this I would live my youth and the pain of my youth, again and yet again.

German short prayer:
Hopfen und Malz, Gott erhalt's
Hopp and malt, God preserve it.

Also:
Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei.
Everything has an end, only sausage has two.

But most and foremost, this:

How's this?

"Only the hand that erases can write the true thing." - Lao Tze (IIRC), from The Medium is the Message

Interesting quote from Lao Tze. The false-logic follow-up that is NOT true is to suggest that whatever the eraser does write must be true. We see massive numbers of examples of this every day on social media. Deceived believers and outright scam artists constantly post false tales to "correct" a previous post.
