What R the symptoms when non-capable memory is pushed to cas 2 ?

Is it so that if the mb tries to run the ram at a speed it cannot handle (say cas 2), the machine will just cold reboot ?

What other symptoms will exhibit in this case ?

After setting it in the BIOS, saving then rebooting, you'd be lucky if you can actually boot and run your OS. Often times, it'll just freeze before you get to go inside the OS. It can also lock up during the system initialization stage or perpetual reboots a plenty.

I usually get registry errors when booting into windows, if i push my RAM too hard.

It depends on the motherboard, some would just freeze, some would take you to Windows, act funny then throw you out. Upon restart youget a BSOD.

Vinayag, is this a clarification of my reply to your post yesterday ? These replys are the symtoms that you said you had, and that is why I suggested that it sounded like your ram couldn't do CAS 2. Even if it is rated for CAS 2, but is marginal quality, the results are the same.

You shouldn't be able to boot your system at all if that's truly the problem.

I had this problem in the past too with my old comp. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. But seemingly, after a couple of formats the problem went away. Didn't know what was different.

Problem is solved. I was having all kinds of reboots and crashes inside WindowsME. The machine would always boot up into windows and then it would start acting funny. Windows XP would not install at all though.

Moving from Cas 2 to Cas 2.5 solved all the problems thought. Thanks a lot for all the suggestions.
