I'd run the 19" at 1152x864, but anything higher than current brings on a pretty bad moire pattern which I can't get rid of, and which annoys the crap out of me. I've also got pretty bad eyesight (don't wear my glasses a lot of the time), and I lean back most of the time so I'm about 2 feet away from the monitor. 1152 is about the highest I can go before text and icons gets too small to read (comfortably)from my usual position.
The other thing about higher resolutions is that a lot of sites on the Web are designed for lower resolutions. The forums for instance. If I go to a higher resolution, this input box doesn't stay the same size. It gets relatively smaller because it's set to be a specific width in pixels, not a specific size relative to your resolution. So at one resolution it might be 6 inches wide, but at the next highest resolution it's only 4 inches wide. The same amount of text fits into it because the text is also smaller, but that's just a HUGE waste of screen space. And I can't stand having things positions in non-maximized windows most of the time, so I can't shrink the window to use the space for something else.
