Hey, I just got my shiny new 2001FP

It's a very beautiful thing. I am in awe.

One question though... I thought because it's 4:3 in size (16.1in by 12.1in) the best resolution would be a 4:3 setting. It looks awesome on 1600x1200 but everything is too small for me. So I thought I would use 1280x960. However, things aren't as clear on this setting as on 1280x1024, which is not 4:3.

Any reason things don't look as good on 1280x960?
Any reason not to run it on 1280x1024?

ECK!

Don't waste that awesome monitor on 1280x1024.

Adjust font sizes under "Appearence" in display props.

As far as why things don't look good:

Some LCD's scale better than others, but they are all made to run in a native resolution. Some look better than others.

Do yourself a favor and use 1600x1200.

Go buy a 22" diamondtron and sell that then you can choose any res with zero free AA effect. (distortion)

The font wont change everywhere in every app so you're kinda screwed.

FWIW....I thought the same thing when I got my 2001FP. My previous monitor was a 21" IBM CRT that I ran at lower resolution. When I got the Dell, I just put it at 1600x1200 and believe it or not, I think you'll get used to it. Give it a chance at that res and play with the llarge font settings like others have suggested.

I was running my dell 2001fpw @ 1024X768 for 7 months while I was saving for a new computer. I just upgraded and am finally running DVI @ 1600X1200 and I don't care how small the fonts are, they are crisp and readable.

Moral: Run it at 1600X1200

One more thing, analog looked HORRIBLE on my 2001FP, but once I switched to DVI, thinks looked 100% better.

I've got two 2001FPs on my machine - one DVI and one analog. Both look just fine. But I sure wouldn't want to see analog pushing anything more than 1600x1200 though.

Go to control panel-accesability options- display tab - settings - and then choose windows standard large or extra large. Also raise the dpi.
