The ULI chipset in the Asrock 939 dual sata board does not need SATA drivers. I installed winXP pro without any SATA drivers.
It would only need SATA drivers for RAID, or if you used the non-native Jmicron SATA controller.

My nForce4 Ultra needed drivers for nVidia's native SATA.

????

Not only have I never needed F6 drivers for nForce, I've done RAID array on the nForce and did not require drivers.

I did not need to load any SATA drivers with my nForce 4 Ultra & SATA HD with XP SP2 slipstreamed OS,yes I was doing a clean OS install on the SATA HD.

LOL! Just grasping for the right words to say.

Here's a thought... install Windows. If it says you need drivers, get a floppy drive. /thread.

Seriously. Are you going to base a motherboard purchase on whether or not you need a floppy to install SATA drivers?

It depends on OS. If you have Windows XP, you need to install SATA drivers because XP doesn't naturally have them.

It does depend on the mobo, not the OS. Most Intel chipsets don't need the driver disk, most other 3rd party chipsets do.

OP - Just install a FDD long enough to get the SATA driver laoded, then get rid of it.

Is your OS on the array, or did you create it after the install with two other disks? The F6 thing is just to get the Windows installer to properly recognize the array in the installation environment.

dude, I hate using a floppy too, but I don't let if affect my judgement when making a purchase.

What I usually do is set the floppy drive up, use it, then unplug it as soon as I am done with it.
But now I am slick...I have a USB floppy that should be able to boot Windows on most new Mobos. THat is my suggestion.

Brand new install.

On the nForce chipset, I didn't need drivers. That said, for VIA chipsets I've ALWAYS needed drivers.

If the SATA controller is supported in the BIOS it will recognize the drive properly if not you will have to load the SATA controller driver by hitting F6 on a clean install of Windows.
