What shoes to wear for an Urban environment and casual look?

Hey guys,

I need some ideas to narrow down my search like brands and names.

The shoes are for that casual look (Polo shirt or T-shirt with jeans look) when going to the mall, grocery shopping or just walking around town. This is not for some party or night time activity or some special date.

Something that is waterproof and durable (very important to me) that will last awhile would not hurt either.

Any ideas?

You can go crazy shopping shoes...I have a fairly large collection but I love Seavees for the classic sneaker with some class, Chrome if you bike or simply want something that can stand up to the seasons, and I just picked up a new pair of Native Apollo Moc's that are super light, resist odor, and can be washed. That should be a good start.

You could always count on seeing Steve Jobs in his black mock turtleneck, Levi’s 501 jeans, and a pair of New Balance 991 shoes.

When New Balance discontinued the NB 991 to replace it with the (better, faster, longer lasting – tech humor, people) updated NB 992, Steve could be seen at times sporting that model as well..

Probably the most comfortable shoes that I've ever had.

Doubt that they are waterproof though...

So, you want sneakers that aren't waterproof then and not what you described in your OP.

i typically like to wear nike sneakers like the nike free type of shoes. i just find them very comfortable. they look great with jeans too.

Budget matters...I like my Clarks for day to day work. I work in equipment rooms many times and expensive leather would be sad to see get cut or scuffed.

Very Urban and very expensive. If you like them Touch of Modern has some styles for only $240ish. They are $500-750 shoes.

Whiteish running shoes. They pretty much go with anything and can be worn with white socks which are the most common. At least when casual is concerned. Don't wear running shoes with dress pants. But for every day they're fine with jeans or with shorts in summer.

Sperry Top Siders... Otherwise known as boat shoes. All leather, durable, good looking and comfortable.

I probably have 3-4 pair in various shades and states of wear. They just get better with age, slip on and off. Don't wear them with socks (unless you are wearing long pants but even then socks are optional).
