When my friend killed a homeless guy nothing happened.
Seriously he did - He was going about 35mph in a 45mph zone on a major county road - driving behind a minivan in the right lane, which slowed down. He pulled into the center lane (wa a 6-lane road) - and the homeless guy that the minivan slowed to avoid ran in front of his car. Hit him dead on, went up on his windshield and everything. Buddy had slammed on his brakes to avoid and when his car skidded to a stop the homeless guy came off his car and whacked his head on the asphalt.
Was ruled "an unfortunate accident" and no charges filed.
Granted this case is different, and probably isn't an unfortunate accident - obviously the dude here assaulted the urban champ and he died from it.
Involuntary manslaughter - 90 days and some community service plus anger management classes.
No, that truly was an accident.
Shoving someone is assault. The guy died as a result of that assault. That's involuntary manslaughter. We are in agreement on this but the first part of your post has zero to do with the second part. Other than the death of a homeless dude there is no similarity.
