I'm thinking about buying BF2 and I know that my Intel Chipset won't run it. The Demo readme says that these are the only video cards that it will run on. Any suggestions?

BTW: I'm not looking to spend a lot. Can you tell me pros and cons and typical prices too?

First of all....does your motherboard accepts AGP/PCIe?

What will be your expectation in terms of gameplay (resolution, quality)? how much will you going to spend?

I have no idea about AGP/PCIe. I want the game to run nicely and look pretty, but I don't have to have the best sh!t out there.

How much are you looking to spend? That will narrow it down.

Also you need to find out whether you have an AGP or PCIe slot before we can advise you.

First and foremost, those aren't the only video cards that will run the game even though Sierra tells you that.

Getting a new video card to play the latest and greatest also depends on the specs of the rest of your computer. I would tend to think anything below a P4 1.8 ghz, 512mb computer would run like junk regardless of video power.

I'm going to assume your computer meets the minimum requirement for playing BF2, sans the video, hence the thread.

Getting a new video card really depends on what resolution you're going to be playing at also, but here are my recommendations regardless.

1024x768 = 6600gt/9800 pro

1280x1024 = 6800gt/x800xt

1600x1200 and above = 7800gt/x1800xl

I think playing at 1024 would make me happy. The computer is a Gateway media PC. It has a 3ghz processor, 512mb, etc. As far as I know, the Vid card is all it lacks.

How do I know if it's AGP vs. *.*?

You need to check the computer specs - enter your exact computer model number on Gateway's website, and you should be able to access the specs.

Just so you realized, a lot of brand-name PCs these days don't come with any sort of video card slot (neither AGP or PCIe). Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones who has one of these two, otherwise you won't be able to upgrade.

I had no idea. Thankfully this isn't my pc although I'm allowed to upgrade it. When I leave, I'll just take the vid card with me. Thanks for the help dude.

I will get the brand/model number later on when I get home. I'll use it to look up the specfications.

Do you think that your psychic link will be up and running later today??

a 6800gs/x800gto2 is right up your alley.
x800gto2 with a bit of work will be a lot faster than a 6800gs.
a 6800gs has the advantage of sm3

hmm... not to sound pessimistic... but that psu looks a bit shy... 300 watts? might want to think about upgrading that also at the same time, you could end up having weird bugs and glitches that will be hard to determine the source.

I'm selling a modded gto for $150. But if that gto2 deal for $144 is true, that can only mean one thing: ... .. ...... ... .... ... ..... .... (I'm not gonna say it )

you're gonna want at least 1gb ram to play bf2, try to stay away from the 6600gt as well, get a nice 256 meg card ala 6800gt/gs
