What should I do about this guy?

There's this guy that I come in regular contact with who just has one to those "I'll push everyone's limits" attitudes. It gets really annoying at times and no one has been able to shut him up. The kinds of things he says are almost as if he wants to get into a fight... yet he is in no condition to fight (Think really fat with a recent gastric bypass) so I just smile when he trash talks. How do I get this person to stop?

Bleh ignore him, chances are his life really really sucks and thats all hes got. Either that or you can stoop below his level and beat him at his own game, pick on his weight etc.

Oh yeah, that's a good one. Just end every sentence yuo say to him with "fatty".

"Hey, how's it going Fatty?"

"Oh yeah, I hear you Fatty."

"I've gotta run, I have a date with your Mom, Fatty."

Probably drive him insane.

That would probably work but I'm looking for a different solution without resorting to making fun of him or punching him in the mouth. Like I said, he is really fat and had a gastric bypass, which means he is fat and malnourished at this point. Would seem cheap... There's also the legal issue of assault here.

Loudly tell him to STFU, and get in his face. If he tries to get physical with you, you'll be in the clear for self defense.

You need to reach down and make sure you still have a set, then man up and face the guy one on one. Tell him his behavior is annoying, childish, etc. Tell him that is makes him difficult to work around and ask why he insists on doing it. Await his response and handle it from there. Damn.

I had a guy like that in my work group. Harassing everyone over every little thing on their projects about how they were wasting resources and hazing and bullying the new people. Turns out 3 coworkers complained about the dude to the boss and he got reprimanded (the guy was brilliant at what he did and the boss didn't want to let him go). He didn't behave like that again for awhile but then his true colors showed up. Good thing I left.

So 3 options:

A) Tell the boss / HR
B) Confront the bully and tell him to knock it off
C) Beat the crap out of him and ignore the consequences.
