So my girlfriend and I just got woken up by the neighbors downstairs(its 2am).

They have the base turned all the way ip on their stereo and are yelling and screaming out on the balcony.


So should I call the cops? Yell down at them? Or just let it go?

Maybe you have something creative?

I wouldn't be so pissed, but the girlfriend has to be at work at 7am, and if she isn't happy I'm not happy.

i suggest just going down and talking to them like a human first, and then call the police if that doesn't work. trust me, if you can work it out civilly then they may be more considerate in the future. if you just call the cops, or start yelling you are going to have unneighborly relations from here on out.

I have an off and on problem similar to yours with my upstairs neighbor. She's a manic depressive that routinely goes off her meds. I usually sleep through her fits, but twice in the past few months, she's come home at 2am, turned her radio all the way up, and started jumping up and down or going outside onto the patio for karaoke.

I hate her.

I went up and pounded on her door and reminded her of the time and asked her to turn it down.

The second time, my wife did it, warned about calling the cops, and told the manager.

2-3 weeks have gone by without much happening with her. Moral of the story? Tell them nicely at first and call the cops if they don't follow through.

In the future go down there and request they turn it down or off entirely, and to keep their voices down. If they ignore you then call the cops. Also call the landlord about it first things once business hours start. My wife and I had to deal with that many times with our noisy neighbors in Denver...never had to call the cops though.

exactly right. Ask them nicely the first time, they will respect you, if they continue to be noisy, call the cops, they'll deal with it from there. Don't be the guy that calls the cops the first time for every issue, but also don't be that sucker that "lets it slide" while you spend a wakeless night before work and your neighbors wake up at 4 the next afternoon fully rested.

i don't think i'd call the cops on them, but approach them about how you need sleep cause you (your gf) has to work so can they consider that.
plus how do you think they'll treat you in the future if they know you've sicced the cops on them?

3) continue to call management. they will get thrown out or you can move out without penalty.

Well,

I went down and talked to them. This guy answered the door and just told me to piss off pretty much and to quite being a ****. Then this girl came to the door and apologized and said they would try to keep it down. I told her I normally wouldn't mind but on Sundays my girlfriend and I have to work early.

She apologized again and said they would try to keep it down. A little while later the music started up again and the bass started to rattle the stuff on my walls. I get up since I had enough, then I could hear over the loud music this girl yelling for someone to turn it down and turn it off. I have a feeling she just had some obnoxious guests over.
