What should I get?????

My sons P2 450 just went out.

I want a system that can use the Kingston 256 PC133 I just bought so I need a suggestion for a MB that uses PC133 and an AMD Duron.

What would be the best Chipset that supports the Duron and PC133. Dual support for DDR would be a plus.

Also which Duron is the best Bang for Buck that will overclock well.

ECS k7s5a offers support for DDR and PC133. It also supports the Duron. I am building one for my grandfather next week. For less than $60 it is hard to beat. I have seen people that have had problems with it, but you can find an equal number of people that are happy with theirs.

I have used ECS boards in the past with no problems.

It is based on the SIS635 chipset, so it is not quite as fast as a KT266A board, but with the Duron you probably won't see an appreciale difference.

im sure many ppl have had excellent results w/ this board, but i personally know 4 ppl who did get this board for the simple fact that it was cheap. all four of my friends ended up returning them after being plagued with inconsistencies compared to their old setup. i guess that old adage kicked in, "you get what you pay for." im sure the kt133a chipset will do fine w/ your duron and ram. you have many choices epox, iwill, asus,....

if you must use pc133 rams... then go with ecs k7s5a.
but really for another $30 or so... you might want to drop that pc133 ram and go for pc2100's.
and if you're willing to make that change... then i'd say to go with a kt266a mobos.
at which point... you might want to drop the cpu and go for an athlon.

as you can see... there's no end to the madness.

oh shoot... when did the memory prices jump like that?

i remember when i bought 256mb pc2100 for about $25.00

damm... now it's in the 60's.

Also consider the ECS K7AMA. Fewer chipset issues then the K7S5A, and slightly cheaper. Also supports both styles of RAM.

Also consider ECS K7VZA Ver 3.0 (KT133A, about $60) , it has 3 SDRAM slots whereas K7S5A has only 2 SDRAM slots.
You can also save if you buy a combo (fan is free and shipping is less) and saved money use for athlon instead of duron. Search for combo in www.pricewatch.com
