What should I play? I'm bored, and feeling like I'm losing interest in gaming. Halp.

So ever since WoW days, I severely struggle to play anything without a community. Only problem is.. Now I get bored of everything. I generally accomplish what I want, then grow distant from the game.

See below for bragging accomplishments just for what I'm trying to say. May help you understand.

I was hoping Overwatch would be the saving grace, but with the lack of community I'm having a very hard time getting into it. Plus there is nothing to really accomplish, and to me.. That's boring.

Anyways every time I achieve my goal in a game. I instantly "shut down" from it because there is no community to tie me to it. I struggle to play anything solo player because there is no competitiveness. It literally feels like I am wasting my time if I can't show my success.

From brief scrounging the web, seeing what's out there the only thing I really seem to be interested in is Lost Ark. And who knows IF that even comes to US. So what am I missing, what can I play? What has that strong sense of community that can keep me attached?

WoW I was in a top 25 US guild up to WotLK. Got bored, haven't returned. (nor do I want to, because the way the current game is the community has seemed to of vanished)
Tera was in the top 3 PvP guild, then quit during vanillia. I'd like to maybe try this again, but it's a bit dated now and the community flight concerns me.
FF14 ARR (hard to rank) but I killed Turn 5 pre-nerf, one of the first 20 LS to do so. Left this game simply because there is no community. It's too designed for ~5 friends.
LoL Was Diamond 2, then got bored. No longer interested. Community is too toxic, hard to really be "friends" with many people on there. Most aren't there for that.

Have you played the Dark Souls series? I'm am MMO guy too and this is the first single-player RPG that has really grabbed me in a long time.

I have not, not sure I want to put money into it though if I have strong resilience against single player games.

Create your own community, I play Overwatch/D3 with 12-20 guys I used to play Battlefield/WoW/FFXI with, now we are all friends and live somewhat close to NYC and have gatherings every now and again.

I find it hard to believe you actually accomplished high level raiding and made zero friends doing it. I was never in a top tier guild (except FFXI), but we killed heroic ICC and cleared almost all content every expansion, made many friends for life.

Sounds like your problem is one more of community than of actual gaming. Join a clan. Get on TS or Vent with them and get to know people. I know gaming is a lot more engaging with my clan than it is just running around by myself. Just running into pubs and hoping a community develops isn't going to happen. You're going to have to seek it out.

If you want a suggestion you can try http://www.tacticalgamer.com/ There are a number of us playing overwatch right now and people get on teamspeak. I sure other people can give you suggestions of clans to check out.

I've been waiting for J. Todd Coleman's Crowfall for so long that I keep forgetting the name of it when I go to check on how it is progressing. At this point my expectations are low. I dont know why no one can make a game like shadowbane, without the technical failings.

I'm having fun in Marvel Heroes 2016, but I read the comic books as a kid so it's partly nostalgia. It's a low-stress action RPG, at least while leveling up.

OP,

My reply to you is... "So don't play then!". This happened to me too before. Life is not about gaming. Try to do something else. Go to the gym, try to learn a new craft or trade, try to get a girlfriend if you don't have one, clean your appt, etc, etc.

At one point I was such an addict that I played literally at least 8 hours a day, every day. And that made me so sick, I was forced to drop out of college and stayed home for years with panic attacks and unbearable headaches. You think that stopped me? As soon as I felt a little better, I went back to same old crap.

But then, in my late 20's all of a sudden I just lost most of my interest in gaming. I still played an occasional game, but that was a VERY rare thing. Games repulsed me. Literally made me sick to my stomach. So I concentrated on my programming class and college and actually did well for a change! (I used to get very bad grades)

After about a year, I started playing again, but somehow, I jut don't care for game like I used to. Games that have a steep learning curve, or require lots of practice of lots of "homework" to be good at make me laugh. I'm like.. "So wait, you mean I should "study" a fucking game to actually win and feel good about myself? I rather put that effort into real life! (That being said, that's exactly how I was in the past, except I still was never good enough despite thousands of hours wasted)

People grinding in Division, Diablo III, countless MOBAs, EVE Online, Warcraft... What a joke.. Pathetic. Pitiful. They are better off learning the stock market.

Don't get me wrong. I am not judging. Gaming is a hobby like any other. Enjoy, but only while it's enjoyable!

Bottom line is, take a break from this shit. Plenty of other things to do out there, except they actually require much more effort on your part than reading a game guide online or grinding for hours in Division. Gaming wont go anywhere. If you feel like playing again in the future, you'll play. If not, you are better off! Trust me. I been there.

You need games that need your brain more than your reflexes now. I recommend getting into Paradox strategy games (Stellaris, Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universalis 4).

I was getting really bored with gaming too. I got into Fallout 4 and really enjoyed it, but became somewhat uninterested after a certain plot twist and have not finished it.

However, I have recently started Divinity, Original Sin, enhanced edition, and absolutely love it. I play single player, but there is on-line play as well. It is the only game in a long time that I actually cant wait to get home and play after work. I dont know if it has the kind of on-line community and accomplishments you are looking for though.

But as another poster kind of said, maybe you should just relax and enjoy gaming, or even take a break for a while, instead of trying to "accomplish something".

I have always been an RPG/MMO/Shooter guy, but I have been totally stuck on Rocket League for MONTHS now. I have installed three other games and when I sit down at the PC I just always wind up loading up RL. The gameplay is simple and addictive and the fun and replayability is literally limitless.

I'm in the same boat. Used to be a big PC gamer, I played everything. Did a 3 year non-stop stint with WoW and since then I've not really been interested in any games. My steam backlog is quite large and I've played maybe 10 of those games.

I actually went back to some old games and like a few of them. Like Sniper Elite 2, Medal of Honor and Divinity II. Also really like Kingdoms of Amalur.

Will probably get back into WoW for Legion since I have enough gold to never pay for a subscription. WoD was okay, certainly kept me occupied for a while.

Would like to find another MMO but nothing I play really draws me in for more than a few minutes.

I do get the feeling the OP is playing too much. It sounds like all these games he's played were pretty good, they just weren't endless. It sounds like he wants an alternate world to live in and I'd agree ibex333, he should simply stop gaming for a while, and not look for a world to live in.

Well, you can go old school and play a MUD/MUSH like Aardwolf. It will take you 3-4 years to even get to end-game content and essentially then you can spend another 10 years attempting to max out, and there are usually 200-300 players online at any given time.

I know EVE was suggested above, but I would say it will be tough to get into that game at this point for someone who expects to be highly competitive. I'm not saying it can't be done, but you are essentially looking at spending $500-1000 to buy either a high skilled character or the skill injectors to skill up a new character to the levels that you would need to be competitive. I'm not saying you can't do things as a new character, but you will be at large disadvantage against people who have been playing already. Before skill injectors were released, to be seriously competitive, you had to spend aprox 2 years in training time for a new character.

Walk away for a bit. Read a book or two. Gaming is a hobby, not a forced existence. Maturity often causes a shift in interests. I find as I get older I'm continuously more jaded with gaming because what comes next is often simple a regurgitation of what came before. It is the predictability through repetition that can kill interest.

For myself, I triggered a nice recharge in gaming when I discovered companies like Matrix Games. Now I tend to buy fewer big budget, wide appeal games and focus on niche titles that do certain things very well but aren't necessarily cutting edge.
