Hello everyone.

I'm happy that i found the forums while looking on the internet because I have some questions to ask y'all. I have a gaming PC that I built myself maybe a year ago and now I want to upgrade it because I have difficulties on brand new games like Battlefield V. So you probably guessed already that I use my computer mainly for gaming and multi-tasks (movie + Runescape or bigger games) so yeah I don't have any budget, the price will just show how good my PC will be at the end I guess lol.

Here is a list of all my specs, please, if you need more information please tell me.

Intel Core i5-6600k @3.5GHz (Non-OC)
Aorus Gigabyte Z270X-Gaming 5
Corsair Vengeance PLX @3200Mhz 16Go
Corsair CX600W Bronze
PNY GeForce GTX 1070 8Go
Windows 10 Familly 64-Bits
NZXT Kraken X62 (LED's aren't working anymore but still cool the CPU, warranty expired)

Like I said I want to upgrade it to be able to play without FPS issues and any other problems. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post!

You computer is no slouch at all. However you might get a small increase in performance if you overclock. To my knowledge, games like Battlefield V really like more cores and memory, so upgrading to a higher core count CPU might get an increase in performance.

https://www.ea.com/games/battlefield/battlefield-5/buy/pc-system-requirements

BATTLEFIELD V RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
  • Processor (AMD): AMD Ryzen 3 1300X
  • Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 4790 or equivalent
  • Memory: 12GB RAM
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1060 6GB
  • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ RX 580 8GB

You don't say what resolution you game at, so I'm assuming 1080p.

Based on your description of your gaming issues, and that you "multi-task", you can upgrade your CPU to a 6700k or 7700k. That should alleviate your gaming issues. Although, depending on what game settings you use (medium, high, ultra, etc.), you could always move to a more powerful GPU like a GTX 1080, RTX 2070, or possibly even the upcoming RTX 2060 (depending on how the reviews look when the card is launched).

Outside of that, your only other option is to scrap your current motherboard / CPU, and replace it with a CPU like the AMD Ryzen 2700X or the Intel i7-9700k. However, you won't really gain a lot in most current games compared to what you have now, but multitasking will see a really solid jump in performance.

With the OP 1070 I think it would be silly to play at 1080p@60Hz even at high settings. I was assuming he was gaming at 1440p.

I have no idea, but generally when people game at higher resolutions, they usually state so. So that's why I just always go with 1080p (and don't even touch what refresh rate they are on).

The performance of the GTX 1070 should be good enough for ultra settings at 1080p, or even at 1440p. However, I know I've seen many posts about FPS dips in that game when a lot of stuff is going on with a large amount of players, so depending on their game settings, they might just drop the setting level down to medium or high.

It's all just a guessing game until the OP provides all the necessary info needed to make a recommendation. For all we know, they could be doing background tasks while gaming, or have a fancy 144hz gaming monitor.

My resolution is 1980x1080. I was looking at the i7-7700k but I wasn't sure if I needed to upgrade anything else because I'll be replacing the CPU for a better one.

I would go with the 9700k or even the 9900K instead as that would get you the most performance increase.

Good grief it seems that Battlefield V is a very expensive game to play...

Gaming on PCs isn't cheap anymore.

Last generation, the top gaming card was the 1080ti for $700. Now in one generation later, the RTX 2080ti is $1200.

Throw in how much RAM increased in price for around a year, and now Intel raising the price threshold for their top consumer CPU to $500+, it for sure isn't cheap.

Nope. Same physical size, different pin configuration. Only works on LGA 1151 (300 Series) (e.g. 370 and 390) motherboards.
Ohh okay I see, sorry ain't really good at this, so what motherboard would you go with the i7-9900k? Replacing a motherboard by another does mean that I will need to re-install Windows right?

No, Windows 10 is pretty smart when it comes to big hardware changes, so it should automatically install the needed chipset drivers and such. However, if your Windows is an OEM version, it might trigger you to reactivate it, which sometimes it will, and sometimes it won't. You might have to call into their activation department and try to get them to give you a new activation key.

Personally, I would not go with the 9900k. It's too expensive for what it is. If you want to stay with Intel, look at the i7-9700k for around $400. If you're open to going with AMD, go with the Ryzen 2700X which sells for $270 - $305. I personally like the Asrock Taichi lineup, so I recommend the Z390 Taichi for Intel, or the X470 Taichi for AMD.

There are less expensive boards if you don't need a "fancy" one, like the MSI B450 Tomahawk (or B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC) for AMD, or a board like the MSI Z390 Tomahawk for Intel.

I might have to reactivate it since I bought it from Kinguin anyway that's not a problem, I'm open to go with AMD I just want the best of the performance I can get.

Well it does depends on what games you play, but it seems that recent multiplayer AAA titles are the most expensive ones to play.

They have decent graphics and more mechanics I guess so they need more ressources.

It also depends on how well the code is written. Games like the newest Doom show how a well written game can run.

Then there are publishers who put out a non-optimized mess, so they have higher system requirements compared to other similar games. Let's just say I've seen a lot of new users here asking for help running Battlefield V, even going back to when they released the demo.

Even on Battlefield 1 I have trouble running at stable FPS.

That game also recommends an i7 CPU. It seems like the Battlefield games want a quad core (and higher) CPU with hyper-threading (or the AMD equivalent).

Also, do you use a SSD or a spinner for the drive that these games are installed on ( and what about your operating system)?

Yes I have a SSD Samsung 850 Evo 250Gb and by operating system I think you are talking about the Windows 10 Family Edition?

No, I meant to see if you had your OS installed on a SSD, and if you use a separate drive for your games and programs, and if so, is it a SSD or spinner?
